Andrew Sullivan has 'in-laws'?
Not to over-gay you guys on Christmas but, Andrew Sullivan writes that he's 'headed off to the in-laws for a Michigan Christmas'. I find this amusing because Andrew is the most prominent supporter of gay marriage and lives, at least part of the time, in a state where gay marriage is legal. Yet he hasn't gotten married but does call his boyfriend's parents 'in-laws', almost as if there is no real difference between having a long-term relationship and saying 'I do', an idea Sullivan has worked so hard to dispel.

Are you sure Andy wasn't using the other colloquial definition of "in-laws?" You know: "People I really can't stand but that I'm socially obligated to spend time with because they're connected to me through a convoluted network of relationships that would require a PowerPoint slide and a laser pointer to explain."

Posted by: Jester at December 25, 2005 03:32 AMGay marriage is legal in Michigan? Since when? And I call my girlfriend's parents "the in-laws" all the time.
