Dwarf bowling?
There are two Young Republican clubs in NYC, and they have nearly nothing to do with each other. Jess Bruder lays out why in the Observer ('The history of the two clubs reads like Hitchcock on acid, complete with an attempted frame-up for murder, a private detective, an episode on Phil Donahue’s talk show and even a bit of … dwarf bowling.') and concludes with a quote from me comparing the situation to the last two Jews in Kabul not being on speaking terms.

The picture of John Lindsay brings back some bad memories. He was a disaster for the New York Republicans and a disaster for New York City. It took NYC 25 years to recover from his administration. No wonder he became a Democrat.
His daughter continues the Lindsay train wreck phenomenon as she was a wheel in Howard Dean's and John Kerry's campaign staff.
Karol:
The problem is that the New York State Republican party is all about power. They do not like dissent. They do not like primary contests. They do not like conservatives. They do not like libertarians. They do not like ideas. They had the extreme liberal Roy Goodman running the New York County party for decades. If you are a social conservative or a fiscal conservative, would you really want to campaign for Gov. Pataki?
Posted by: Dan at January 18, 2006 12:05 PMPolitics is 1/4th idealism, 1/4th ideology, 1/4th alcohol-based socializing, and 1/4th high-school cliques for less attractive people.
I am not opposed to getting beyond the feud and even talking again, but magnanimity is needed from all parties.

PS. Although many of us are Jewish, at least we don't live up to the joke of 2 Jews, three shuls.
Organizations that don't have any power focus on the unimportant. That is happening now with these Republican groups.
Groups that have power come together on issues so their power is not dissipated.
Only a charismatic, visionary leader (like Karol) can change those groups.
Posted by: Jake at January 18, 2006 03:00 PMEvery Young Republican and College Republican organization in New York State should be bound to the guidelines and platforms of the Republican National Committee (RNC).
The real problem in New York is that member of the State GOP don't even honor the RNC platform, so why would their nieces or pages?
Their patrons don't get along in the State Capitol and City Hall. Why should they get along over something as infantile as this?
