Good for you, Joe. I was going to attack the stat based on the study which I consider flawed, biased, and bullshit. But, upon reading the article, it seems like they just pulled the 80% out of the air.

No one has commented on the SUBJECT of the article. Everyone is either commenting about the "stats source" (yes, poor reporting) or marriage. This article is not about marriage per se, its about the sex lives of a couple, married or not, children or not. Sexual exploration. Not single parent households.

I doubt most people are out there swinging. But I bet a lot of people are masterbating and fantasizing about it. I don't think the article was implying it was ok for everyone. It was an observation of a lifestyle. Isn't it better that a couple consent to do something like that together rather than one of them cheating on the other? Of course, this assumes both partners would have to be into that type of thing and copnsent.

Allah is certainly a ray of sunshine when it comes to relationships. The fact the statistic isn't sourced doesn't mean it doesn't have a source, it just wasn't provided. Based on personal observation I'd say it's probably pretty close to being accurate, at least here in California.

And as Joe wrote on his blog, they are from an "online survey of 1,092 swingers — self-selected and extremely unrepresentative of the general population's sexual attitudes." I assume the 80% was from an even more unreliable and biased source or the author just made it up.

People still sling around the "50% divorce rate" myth, which isn't even based on flawed facts. It's based on no facts.

Add to that the whole cloth nonsense that still is with us as a result of that pervert Kinsey's personal obsessions, and you've got a healthy reason for skepticism whenever such statistics are brought up.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that 80% cheating claim comes from Kinsey.
