I'm surprise there are no comments under Syd here. Anyone here who grew up listening to music by the Soup Dragons, The Damned, David Bowie, Robyn Hitchcock, The Replacements, Blur, Primal Scream, REM, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, TV Personalities, Jesus and Mary Chain, Love & Rockets, Smashing Pumpkins, Camper Van Beethove, Voivoid, Teenage Fanclub, Neil the Hippy (from, "The Young Ones" UK), The Boomtown Rats... the list goes on.
Syd Barrett inspired artists throughout the music world in the underground and even many in mainstream. From Cocteau Twins to the heavy hitting sounds of Voivod, Syd may not have been the most talented musician, his style of writing and his vision for obscurity and pyschadelic overdose changed how music can be presented to the public.
"My head kissed the ground, I was half the way down, tread in the sand, please, please lift a hand, I'm only a person, whose armband beeds on his hands hang tall. Won't you miss me, wouldn't you miss me at all?"
