Oh snap

"Well, I think Mellencamp's performance was not very good to begin with, and the comment put it over the top."

-Dan Quayle after walking out of a John "Cougar" Mellencamp concert following an anti-Bush remark.

I used to love DQ's column in Kerrang.

Quayle is still alive?

This would have been interesting in say 1989. As it is, I could care less about this epic battle of has beens. Maybe they should star in their own VH1 reality show.

Hey, at least Mellancamp has managed to stay relavent into middle age, which is more than I can say for Quayle.

How is he "relevant?"

The only thing this story demonstrates is that Dan Quayle has execrable taste in music.

Didn't Quayle learn from the Dixie Chicks? Now Mellencamp will be more popular than ever.

When will these artists realize that Bush-bashing is by now the most unoriginal thing you can do on a stage, or on a canvas, or in every damned Graydon Carter editorial for (I'm sure it will be for) eight straight years.

How can these people be so very talented, but not see how trite, how boring these statements are?

I run into Dan Quayle occasionally when I am in Montana. Except for graying hair, he still looks the same.

If I saw Dan Quayle heading towards the door at one of my concerts, I'd figure I was doing something right.

'Now Mellencamp will be more popular than ever."

I doubt it.

If people want to listen to a faux-working class, crappy rock musician there's always Bruce Springsteen.
