Worst. Idea. Ever.

My guest blogger Dorian Davis linked to Media Matters a few days ago, and sadly I now have to do it again. This is from an exchange between MSNBC host Chris Matthews and perpetual candidate Mark Green:

MATTHEWS: Mark, what do you think of my idea of taking the U.N., if it wants to expand -- in fact, encourage it to expand -- and put it down at World Trade Center, in the footprint, so that if they hit us again, they're hitting everybody?

GREEN: I like that idea. But let me disagree --

MATTHEWS: Hold the whole world hostage to our security -- don't you think that's a good idea?

GREEN: One second -- let me just --

MATTHEWS: If we're going to rebuild, why don't we put the U.N. -- you guys have a problem, really, coming out against terrorism. We'll put you in a situation where you face the terrorists head-on.

GREEN: Chris --

MATTHEWS: We're going to put you --

GREEN: It's a good TV idea, but --

MATTHEWS: Why isn't it a good idea in reality?

GREEN: Symbolically it's a good idea, because they hit us there, and let the world come together there. But I disagree on Bush and protecting New York. It was eight years between the first and the second World Trade Center attacks. As a New Yorker who saw the plane go into the World Trade Center on the day I had an election -- of course I'm relieved there's no attack, but for one day -- for four days of the Iraq war, we can inspect not 5 percent of all containers coming into this city, but 20 percent. We could protect every airliner with antimissile devices.

THE UN!?!?!? On the ground where 3000 Americans died? Is he high?

The UN, the same UN that allows Syria and Iran to chair Human Rights Committees, the UN that does nothing as terrorists purposely kill Israeli children but springs to life when Israel accidentally kills any civilians? Not to mention the UN's past funding of Hamas. The UN that opposed the removal of Saddam, that fought us every step of the way, all the while making secret Oil for payola deals? The UN which allows gangsters to launder money through it. Sexual harrassment, extortion, theft, rape and more rape.

I don't even want the UN in the same city, let alone on that site. Jayzussssss, way to work me up on a Wednesday afternoon, Chris Matthews, way to work me up.

UPDATE: Oh, and one other thing. Terrorists are not robots. They are not programmed to hit the same physical location over and over. If the UN is on the WTC site, they will choose another site. Because, as my Scottish friend Bobby said at the time, they wouldn't piss on their own chips, now would they?

ANOTHER UPDATE: Ace writes: "If Chris Matthews has any kind of point here, why not move the UN to Tel Aviv or Haifa?" Heh.

But it sure would go a long way in convincing the UN to act if they thought they were threatened. You think Kofi would let his lazy, bigoted ass get killed?

On the ground where 3000 Americans died?
dude...people from 80 nations were killed on september 11th...hundreds from britian alone...plus another 200 that were killed in dc and pennsylvania.
Move the UN, free up valuable real estate and parking on the east side, plus you'll never have to care about when the un meets again.

And, if they take the crap floors at the bottom of the new tower, they will be more likely to rent out the top.
the plan is genius.

Better idea: Let them flop at Dawn's place.

In 1962, at the dedication of his presidential library, Herbert Hoover called for the UN to be ignored in favor of an association of free nations. Hoover was a bit more of a world federalist than a lot of conservatives (remember this was the only GOP presidential candidate who supported the League of Nations in 1920 and pushed for America to join the World Court in both the Harding administration and his own presidency). It's an idea that frankly needs to be brought up again.

If there is to be a UN, it should be in the world's greatest nation, the US of A. But why have it in New York? We need to have it in a real American city like Des Moines or Birmingham or Boise. That way we can ask the UN delegates if they are saved, what they think the Bronocos will do this year, if they think the Commodore gets it in the next Pirates film and make them spend Friday nights at Chili's and Walmart as opposed to tawdry Upper East Side restuarants and Lincoln Center. They'll either be thrown into the cement mixer and become more pro-America or never want to spend time at the UN. Either way, we win!

Von Bek:

That sounds too cruel and inhumane to do to anyone, even U.N. delegates.

Because of 'rural flight' they're offering free land to anyone who wants it in South Dakota, Oklahoma and Nebraska. Sounds perfect

Good Idea Von Bek!

Ah, Danny boy, it's how most of us live and that's how we like it (though I am more of an Applebee's and a Target man myself). And yeah I think the Commodore gets it in the next Pirates film. No clue about the Broncos since Jake the Snake is still inconsisten.

Mary, Kansas too (there's a certain someone I know who just got a bunch of free land in Lincoln County, Kansas where he dreams of building a country house one day; needless to say this has changed his view of Andrew Johnson and the Homestead bills of the 1850s and 60s).

Thanks Paul.

VB: We faux-New Yorkers have Chili's and Target too you know... (although good luck getting one of the so-called "real" New Yorkers to actually go with you to a Chili's - a life without the pleasure of the chili cheese dip is a sad life indeed...)
