Fox News crew still missing (bumped with new info)
WHERE IS THE MEDIA?
My opinion: No news is news. So is unchecked terrorist thuggery against Western journalists. The disappearance of Centanni and Wiig is at least as newsworthy as--and far more threatening to our national security than--people falling off cruise ships or getting eaten by alligators or attacked by bees.
UPDATE, 8/23/06 10:17am: Reader Sara writes in:
"A new terror group - the holy jihad brigade has them and says they want all muslims held in US jails to be released in 72 hours and the world should convert to Islam. Plus, they say that the muslim leaders are too weak and speak too much to Non Muslims. They have a 90 sec video with the two men. They say they are bring treated well and have fresh water, food, clean clothes and bathroom accessibility."
Update, 10:46am: Allah has got the video.

Something else I have not heard anything on - those kidnapped Israeli soldiers.
Were those guys ever returned as a result of the new "ceasefire?"
Posted by: mark at August 22, 2006 11:29 AMIf only they'd had the foresight to confess to JonBenet's murder first.
Honestly - MSM is so hateful of themselves and Americans at large right now, they can't bring themselves to give a fuck. That's my guess.
Posted by: Ari at August 22, 2006 11:33 AMWHERE IS THE MEDIA?
we don't know! That's what "missing" means.
Shessh.
I'm just going to cut out the middlewoman and have the Alarming News bookmark automatically redirect to MichelleMalkin.com
Posted by: Ken at August 22, 2006 12:03 PMI haven't heard from those Iraeli soldiers either. Annan's Ceasefire must be going really well. Hezbollah breaks every part of it and not a word. Israel tries to stop them from breaking it again, and it is condemned by the UN. It's another 1559.
Notice the UN also isn't talking about the kidnapped journalists. If Israel took a Hezbollah fighter into custody, there would be hell to pay from the UN.

hahahahahahaaha
Ken funny.
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at August 22, 2006 01:22 PMAmerican Pundit, Israel assassinates and "liquidates" terrorist and political figures in the territories regularly, which is barely covered by the media. On the other hand, when Hamas kidnapped a soldier it recieved a good deal of media attention, and Israel reinvaded Gaza.
Posted by: Sam L. at August 22, 2006 05:24 PMSamL. Are you posting from ______istan?
How do you get away with that unsubstaniated tripe?
Hell, in Gaza, if Isreal picks up a pile of rocks near Gaza, Palistinians want to go to the UN for Isreal taking THEIR weapons of MASS destruction!
Invasion surprised the whoooooly wazoo out of all of em. They keep pulling on superman's cape and are 'victimized' again by the response.
Man, if we had HALF the PR proxy of the Arab world?!
Posted by: grateful1 at August 23, 2006 04:21 AMAn article about the kidnapping is in this morning's Christian Science Monitor. There's a little more background here.
Of course, one would expect the Monitor to be sensitive to these kinds of stories (see Carroll, Jill).
Posted by: Shawn at August 23, 2006 07:56 AMolaf is telling everybody to pressure their countries to put political pressure on to get thier release. he also says his family shouldn't worry they should leave all the worrying to him.. toy can see this video on fox's web site with the story. And yes i want to know where the israeli kidnapped soldiers are!
Posted by: sara at August 23, 2006 10:31 AMSo where are these fantastical peaceful muslims you hear of - where are they and how are they helping Wiig and Centanni get home? Where is the intervention? Where are the moderate muslim voices? My guess - there isn't a muslim out there that gives a damn.
Remember all those arabs standing in London declaring: WE ARE ALL HEZBOLLAH?
A bomb should have been dropped. Strikes me as a clear admission of terrorism, it is time to liqudate Islam. There's not an adult worth saving in that lot of hatred and fanatacism.
And feel free to hate me for what I've written. Just don't mistake yourself into thinking I give a rat's ass.
Posted by: Ari at August 23, 2006 11:34 AMactually in this instance the gaza arabs are taking to the streets in protest of this. saying how they need the news inthere to show all their woes and such. Woman are out campaigning for their release {cantanni and wiig}. so for a change they are outspoken - we would here more about it if the msm wasnt so scared to go to gaza...
Posted by: sara at August 23, 2006 11:47 AMAnd now that there's a video, the mainstream media is picking it up. And would it be helpful to go with the steady stream of non-updates, or do you possibly run the risk of making the situation worse? I just don't think silence is really part of a liberal media conspiracy.
Posted by: Alceste at August 23, 2006 12:11 PMI just don't think silence is really part of a liberal media conspiracy.
Don't be silly Alceste- haven't you learned by now that EVERYTHING is ALWAYS part of a liberal media conspiracy?
Posted by: Steve at August 23, 2006 12:23 PMOk then steve - you tell me how two kidnapped reporters is not news. Esp. when Kim Dozier made such headlines for (merely) being wounded.
Go!
Posted by: ari at August 23, 2006 01:02 PMFisch, are you implying that Rupert Murdoch is negotiating with terrorists to get his guys back?
I think this news blackout has been terrible to the cause of their return and if that's the reason then that's just awful.
Posted by: Karol at August 23, 2006 02:06 PMNo, actually the bottom line is "this would encourage more kidnappings of Fox and other News stations' employees....".
He's just hurting his other employees by doing this, if this is indeed what he's doing.
Posted by: Karol at August 23, 2006 02:18 PMIf this was your mother that was kidnapped, and you felt you had a chance of negotiating her release, you would do it and you know it and you'd be wrong if you didn't.

Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at August 23, 2006 02:19 PMDawn, glad to see you're on board with something resembling vigilantism. Like, sure, families should negotiate for release with terrorists. Just like families of victims should get to decide if a criminal gets the death penalty and how, right?
Posted by: Karol at August 23, 2006 02:28 PMAnd making frequent broadcasts for the kidnappers to watch and admire the fruits of their handiwork is really going to be helpful?
This is similar to what the CSM did when Carroll was kidnapped (you should give her story a read). Looking for informal back channels to the kidnappers and trying to keep the situation as low profile as possible even when the parents were going on TV...
Posted by: Alceste at August 23, 2006 02:29 PMDawn, glad to see you're on board with something resembling vigilantism.
Dude, have we met? My entire life philosophy is built on vigilantism.
So why not always negotiate with terrorists? I mean, if Americans see W. negotiating for another American's release won't they be pleased as punch too? But we don't because we realize that the end result will always be a bad one for us.
The reality is that any kind of negotiation and any kind of compromise hurts us all. It hurts Fox employees and all other media people. It hurts all Americans.
Also, your point about what they want makes no sense. If they want nothing but to kill us, what good will negotiating do?
Posted by: Karol at August 23, 2006 02:41 PMOk then steve - you tell me how two kidnapped reporters is not news. Esp. when Kim Dozier made such headlines for (merely) being wounded.
Go!
Ari, I've been blogging about the Centanni thing and the lack of media coverage for two weeks now , and how it should have gotten more coverage. And while "MSM" wasn't covering it, neither was Fox News, and neither was the blogosphere (left or right), until the last couple of days.
And I wouldn't say Dozier was "merely" wounded- she was nearly killed, while we don't know yet whether any physical harm has been done to Centanni or Wiig.
Posted by: Steve at August 23, 2006 03:23 PMAnd I wouldn't say Dozier was "merely" wounded- she was nearly killed, while we don't know yet whether any physical harm has been done to Centanni or Wiig.
You may not know what if any physical harm they have endured but I'm betting these upstanding, peaceful Muslims are not holding a Connect Four or UNO championship with the reporters.
Merely having Cebtanni and Wiig in their slimy little hands is enough to cause me great concern.
But eh... it's probably just a right wing conspiracy anyway. Right? Centanni... well doesn't that sound made up.
Off topic: is there a sane, logical democrat left in the entire world? Just one?

Pot. Kettle. Ari.
Posted by: Alceste at August 23, 2006 04:44 PMAlceste, you're missing the part where Ari IS a Democrat.
Posted by: Karol at August 23, 2006 04:47 PMYah, she's a Zell Miller Democrat.
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at August 23, 2006 04:52 PM"A new terror group - the holy jihad brigade has them and says they want all muslims held in US jails to be released in 72 hours and the world should convert to Islam. Sounds bogus, like a couple of 40-year-old guys realizing that they've got one last shot at glory or a better life. The world *should* convert to Islam? Not very demanding.
The reality is that any kind of negotiation and any kind of compromise hurts us all. It hurts Fox employees and all other media people. It hurts all Americans.
How does it hurt all Americans? Jill Carroll made it back alive. Clearly some form of negotiation worked. Murdoch or NewsCorp. or some party acting on their behalf needs to try. I'm with Fisch, governments should never negotiate with terrorists, but business owners have an obligation to if there's the slightest chance they can be saved.
Ok, but if I take that same broad brush and paint the Jews with it, saying "Aw, they run everything. America is such a tool of Israel," I don't want no lip out of you. Understand?
