Vote
It's election day in NY and for the first time in decades, the Republicans are having a primary for U.S. Senate. I've made no secret of my support for K.T McFarland, as well as my connection to the campaign. She is poised, articulate, incredibly intelligent and the only credible challenge to Hillary Clinton.
Her opponent has accused her, with full seriousness, of being planted by Hillary (crazy, much?), "jokingly" threatened to kill Governor Pataki and a federal judge, used the words "goombah" and "chinaman" in public, had an affair with his Chief of Staff, producing two children while married to someone else and then tripled his girlfriend's salary, said that pregnancies resulting from rape aren't pregnancies (he's the supposed "pro-lifer" in the race, see?) and ran ads equating Hillary with Osama bin Laden that made even the most hawkish Republicans ashamed to associated with him.
I write this as a movement conservative, someone who has gone to other states to work for the most conservative candidates I can find and, as a conservative I can not support this man. I write this as a New Yorker, who loves this state and wants to see it get the best representation possible. And I write this as a Republican who thinks our party can do so much better than this, that we shouldn't have to stick with the candidate that was left when all the others dropped out simply because he was able to hang on. Frankly, this can't be our guy.
If you're a Republican voting in NY today, I highly recommend K.T. McFarland. Now go vote!
UPDATE: Michelle Malkin and Rightwing News have info on elections in other states.

John Spencer sounds pretty awful. But what is good about McFarland, other than that she is not Spencer? What are her views on the big issues of the day? Iraq? Immigration?
Posted by: Dan at September 12, 2006 10:46 AMCrazy much? That's the pot calling the kettle black here after KT's disputed revelations about her father, her daughter and shoplifting, her brother, her endorsements that are not endorsements (like Brenner), and her insisting that Hillary was sending black hellicopters to spy on her. She is decent on immigration though I fail to see how any conservative can support KT since she is pro-abortion. Neither Spencer or KT deserve any support and it is pathetic that this is the best the Republicans can come up with. Thankfully we will never have to hear of one of them after today and we will never hear of the other ever again after Hillary burries them in a landslide come November.
Posted by: Von Bek at September 12, 2006 10:59 AMVon Bek, you have no idea what you're talking about and I don't get why you always have to be contrarian, even if it makes no sense.
What does any of her family stuff have to do with anything? What did she DO exactly? Did she beat anyone? Did she steal anything? Or is it guilt by association now? And find me where she ever used the phrase 'black helicopters'. Or is just ok to parrot other people's distortions? She made a joke about "planes" not "black helicopters", though why should you let facts get in the way of your ranting? Brenner did endorse, I have the letter which HE sent to reporters. Once again, don't let being wrong stop you.
Seriously, if you have no idea what you're talking about, maybe better not to.
Posted by: Karol at September 12, 2006 11:11 AMoh blast, I thought I had to do something this morning before sailing off to office: to vote!
Now I wouldn't be able to, since I'm off to Penn stn and to Providence after work.
Well, while I appreciate your loyalty to the campaign you are working for, I can only go by what I have read out here in the heartland.
Based on the articles I have read such as http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/65930.htm, it was hellicopters and not planes. Apparently the copters were not black. Apologies. While I appreciate you and Bill O'Reilly, and I do mean this sincerely when I say there are fewer people in politics I have more affection for, saying it was a joke, apparently there were people who did not take it as such. These people may be biased. Perhaps. But anyone in the campaign's pay would also be biased.
As this campaign has sadly come down to exchanging words about the other candidate's personal life, I think that KT's accusations about her father, the cross words from her brother, the way she allegedly turned her back on her dying brother and so on have as much relevance as the numerous skeletons in Spencer's closet. As for Brenner, I'll take your word for it.
I don't think I am being much of a contrarian in pointing out that neither of these candidates have a snowball's chance in hell against Hillary Clinton. I think it stretches the bounds of reason to think either will be "credible."
Anyone who thinks KT is credible, why I would reply "seriously, if you have no idea what you're talking about, maybe better not to."
Posted by: Von Bek at September 12, 2006 11:24 AMNo. There is something very different about CAUSING the problems in your personal life and having them cost the public money (when you triple your girlfriend's salary with taxpayer money) or when they are caused for you with no reprecussions to anyone else.
KT IS credible. She won't run ads equating Hillary with Osama because she knows that's idiotic. She speaks to issues. Yes, Hillary is near impossible to beat. And yes, she has a ton of money. But I prefer the candidate who won't make me hang my head in shame throughtout the election season and that was the point of this post.
Posted by: Karol at September 12, 2006 11:30 AMI think a lot of Republicans will hold their heads in shame if they have KT as the candidate, though again Spencer is awful as well. I thought Ed Cox was the only thing close to a credible candidate in the field, especially after Pirro went down in flames.
Posted by: Von Bek at September 12, 2006 11:38 AMHer family problems have nothing to do with anything. With five kids, if the worse that has happened is that her teenager was caught shoplifting, she must be doing something right. The kid was charged with petty theft, too. Her mother didn't try to get her off the hook. She wrote a private letter to her family back in 1992 addressing family matters, which her dumbass brother released to the press. You are a sleeze, Von Bek.
Posted by: sam at September 12, 2006 11:43 AMThanks sam. Actually, I have been called a lot worse over the years my people I actually know and respect.
Sorry but if something is in the public domiain, and you will have to forgive me but the only reason I knew of the story was that KT had suspended her campaign due to it (I honestly don't know if I would have heard of it otherwise), I don't think it is wrong to say that voters knowledge of the event would affect how they vote.
Posted by: Von Bek at September 12, 2006 11:50 AMActually, I have been called a lot worse over the years my people I actually know and respect.
Well, they are right. Now,let me put a VonBek twist on it: Respectable people who have known Von Bek for many years think he is a lot worse than sleezy. Even Von Bek admits it.
I'm sure you have spent oodles of time extolling the virtues of your lovely KT. However. I voted for Hill. But that's more about us being soulmates/BFFs than being anti-Karol.
Posted by: E. E. Grimshaw at September 12, 2006 12:34 PMSams, I make it a point never to engage in jousts where the sole purpose is name calling. Sorry if I stepped on your candidate's toes.
Posted by: Von Bek at September 12, 2006 12:38 PMI voted for KT. My first vote as a Republican!
Posted by: Marianne at September 12, 2006 12:45 PMSams, I make it a point never to engage in jousts where the sole purpose is name calling. Sorry if I stepped on your candidate's toes.
No, you slime and run. And, I no longer live in NY. Name calling? You admitted you were a sleeze plus. It's now in the public domain. I don't think it is wrong to say that reader's knowledge of your admission would affect how they view your posts.
Posted by: sam at September 12, 2006 01:05 PMI made no such admission. I have said that I have been called worse by people whose opinions matter to me, like when a number of people I love dearly pointed out the mess I was making of my life before I quit the bottle.
If you want to make a case for KT (and just because you no longer live in NY does not mean you do not have a candidate; I left NY some time back and am hoping Faso wins), then please make it. All you seem to be able to do is flame.
Posted by: Von Bek at September 12, 2006 01:12 PMNo, I'm criticing you for your sleezy arguments. That her kid was arrested is irrelevant as to her ability to serve as a canidate. That a private 13 year old letter was released only proves that her brother is an a-hole.
Posted by: sam at September 12, 2006 01:24 PMI agree. I think the politics of personal destruction has been taken too far. The problem is this senate primary has devolved into namecalling by both Spencer's and KT's camps. I think that has sadly outweighed anything else between the camps. I think all the charges being thrown around, bigamy and copters, family matters and so on will prove important among the fraction of NY Republicans hitting the polls today.
Posted by: Von Bek at September 12, 2006 01:27 PM"Well, they are right. Now,let me put a VonBek twist on it: Respectable people who have known Von Bek for many years think he is a lot worse than sleezy. Even Von Bek admits it."
Now THAT's entertainment!
Posted by: Mark Poling at September 12, 2006 04:12 PMWell now if it was a true Von Bek twist, I think we would hear some thoughts on how neocons sunk Franklin Pierce's presidency. :)
Posted by: Von Bek at September 12, 2006 04:21 PMflame on in this thread...whoaa...Colonol Sam is on the offensive.
So is there an exit poll or something how's your chick doing K?
Posted by: dan the x-Republican at September 12, 2006 04:55 PMThe flames have long died down, Dan. As usual, you're a day late and a dollar short.
Posted by: sam at September 12, 2006 05:39 PMSam, I see that you're a VERY obnoxious person.
So when do we find out what happened at the primary ? (question not posed to Col. sam)
And you're an idiot who can dish it out but cries like a little baby when it comes back at ya'.
Posted by: sam at September 12, 2006 06:55 PMWho's crying guy?
Just making an observation that all of your posts are personal attacks and rarely provide any useful information. It's not just in this thread but every thread.
It's really easy to be an ass when you hide behind the internet, it's definately the major drawback with these "blogs". If you were looking at me in person you wouldn't be such a jerk, I bet. I could be wrong though.
Is it me or is this guy just an obnoxious flamer ?
Posted by: dan the x-Republican at September 12, 2006 08:55 PMIt's just you.
Posted by: sam at September 12, 2006 09:15 PMDon't worry about the loss, little girl. He will still be a sleazebag tomorrow who gets crushed by hillary. KT had more class in her little finger.

Posted by: at September 12, 2006 10:31 PMSo, K, I guess we'll be voting for Hillary? Just a thought.
Posted by: toby at September 13, 2006 10:48 AMNo, either Libertarian or I'm skipping the line.
