Let's go Yankees!
My boss likes making bets with me. We bet a dollar, on things like poll numbers or contribution amounts, I win, then put the dollar in my drawer. After a few months, when my drawer is overflowing with dollar bills, I take them and buy candy for the office.
I admit he makes it easy, letting me have an over/under option on his chosen number.
But he's never made it as easy as this: he bet me lunch at our local Indian restaurant that the Mets (his team) would go further than the Yankees (my team) in the post-season. After confirming he knew that both Pedro and El Duque are out, I'm not trying to cheat anyone, after all, I took the bet.
I'll be having the Chicken Tikka Masala.

Foley, Faso, Spencer, Pirro, Spitzer who? There's games on this week.
Posted by: Scott Sala at October 4, 2006 03:26 PMDidn't you just break your cardinal superstitious rule by saying you are going to win the bet?
Dawn, I need a ruling on this....
Posted by: Lisa at October 4, 2006 03:30 PMYes, Lisa. But shh...we don't want to jinx her jinx by assuming that this means we will win.
Also,
Dear Karol's boss,
Hi, I don't know you, but I have heard very nice things about you. Therefore, I figured I should warn you that if Karol loses this bet, she will never make good on it. I have an outstanding two year old "win" of a dinner at Scalinatella that remains just that a victory in quotation marks.
So, make sure to bring enough for your own Indian lunch.
Sincerely,
Not Dawn Summers
I will take you to Scalinatella, whiny. It's not my fault your poker obsession precludes doing anything else with you.
Posted by: Karol at October 4, 2006 04:15 PMMay I suggest Ada on 58th (on 58th I believe it's 2nd and 3rd).
Enjoy your feast!

Hilton!
Is Scalinatella the truffle place ?
Posted by: dan the x-Republican at October 4, 2006 04:28 PMIf you mean the one that puts pounds of truffles atop pasta dishes then yes. Dawn and I had a bet that if Bush wins the election I take her there, if Kerry wins, she takes me. That way, we'll both be at least somewhat happy that Nov.
Posted by: Karol at October 4, 2006 04:31 PMHilton!
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at October 4, 2006 05:33 PMI guess Dawn had no happiness that Nov.
Hey, it looks like the Mets are winning today after all. I wrote them off after hearing the news about Pedro, but if they could win today, I'd call them a lock for the WS. As lockety lock as you could get. Like a Master (tm) Lock. Karol is buying her boss lunch. It's a lock.
1969. 1986. 2006.
Lock 'er up and throw away the key.
I'm with your boss, I just can't root for the yankers. Pedro will be fine; if not the bullpen is deep. The mets have plenty of good middle relievers.
Posted by: William at October 4, 2006 09:04 PMuh...william...pedro will be fine...next yearish.
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at October 4, 2006 09:51 PMDawn is kinda funny....
I will root for the Mets until they play the Yanks. A subway series is a beutiful thing. I can't root for the X-Brookline Dodgers. Not to mention the Mets have a young scrappy team who are fun to watch.
Dan the Yankee fan the X-Republican.
lets go yankees
Lets Go Yankees
LETS GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw a woman the other day wearing a Yankees jersey walking-I kid you not-her dog in a matching one.
The people in my neighborhood have some serious issues.

I actually don't think they've won a championship since she was sworn in as our junior senator, have they?
Posted by: Gerard at October 6, 2006 03:50 AMI say that you made a great bet...the mets suck.
