Oh SNAP.

You go Roger Ailes (head of Fox News):

“We haven’t had to fire our executives or our reporters or our anchors or anybody else for making up the news,” Ailes continued. “Maybe we’re a little too in-your-face at times. But basically what we do is cover the story, and we haven’t been forced to eat our words because we’re actually telling people what’s going on. Sometimes there’s more than one point of view, and we try to reflect that.”

Some excellent swipes, I like the boldness. If I watched TV, I'd definitely watch your network.

It's not that they haven't "had" to fire their on-air rightwing agenda mouthpieces, it's that they "haven't" done so. This because the purpose of Fox is to spread propaganda, a fact confirmed by every survey or study ever done on the subject.

What Ailes is basically bragging about is that bias (or outright falsehoods) do not have consequences at his network. Fox is nothing other than talk radio with pictures, led by the guy whose lack of bias is presumably why he was Ronald Reagan's debate coach. If there is one thing he should be bragging about, it is that old-fashioned maxims of accuracy have been discarded on his network, which is quite the feat, and thoroughly done.

Bouldin:

Those surveys you quote are laughable. Who do they survey? They only survey left-wing journalists and left-wing academics.

CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, NPR, PBS, and MSNBC all engage in massive new suppression. They will not cover stories that are bad news for Democrats nor will they cover good news for Republicans. Of course, we all know about their many lawsuits they have endured over the years for fraudulent stories.

Many Democrats who have to know what is going on watch Fox News because:

1. Fox does not do news suppression and so their newscasts cover many more news stories. Since MSM does so much news suppression, they are forced to fill in with fluff:

2. Fox presents many more points of view than MSM. MSM will not put a conservative on the air unless there is a screaming lefty next to him to drown the conservative out.

Democrats hate that many news stories on seeing the light of day on Fox, but they know that the only way to see the complete news is to watch Fox.

Bouldin,

You remind me of the boy who cried, "wolf !"

Last time you hysterically cried, "wolf !", we checked out the comments at that D-list website, only to find that your critique could not be substantiated by even the most generous subjective reasoning.

To quote Def Leppard, "...hysteria, when you're near."

"CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, NPR, PBS, and MSNBC all engage in massive new [sic] suppression."

Oh, you mean like on Saddam's WMDs? Or happy, grateful Iraqis showering our guys with flowers? Those stories aren't "suppressed", rather, they're "not true" or "beside the point" or "propaganda".

"Fox presents many more points of view than MSM".

Their opinion diversity consists of "right", "far right", and "frothing at the nostrils crazy right", also known as "Ann Coulter". Which is probably why those surveys that we in the reality-based community put so much stock in show that Fox viewers tend to be, drumroll, rightwingers looking for affirmation. Pravda TV for true believers.

But hey, you guys are a vanishing minority disgraced by failure, defeat and extremism, so you might as well get a TV channel as consolation. Because, face it: the country is done with you.

Bouldin:

These are the statements MSM suppresses about WMD

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." Letter to President Bush, Signed by: -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them."
-- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
-- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
? Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

Hate to break up this latest round of My Media Organization Could Beat Up Your Media Organization, but all of them suck. The fact is that news organizations are more concerned with slick production, ratings, 10 second soundbites and pundits just looking for a reaction instead of an honest debate.

It would be nice if one them could get down to devoting 10-15 minutes to a story, exploring it from a variety of viewpoints and giving the public a chance to mull it over. That would definitely cut down on the number of knee-jerk reactions.

Posted by: Shawn at October 22, 2006 07:09 PM

So what's your point, Jake? That the Bush administration presented false, incomplete and misleading information to Congress?

And just what does that have to do with the manifest bias of Pravda TV? Seriously?

Posted by: Bouldin at October 22, 2006 07:28 PM

Bouldin,

Just because you don't like O'Rielly doesn't mean he makes up the news. You lefties must be smarting over Rathergate when you gloss over facts like that. Let me recap: Rather ran a story based on documents a six-year-old could have spotted as fake. His source kept changing stories when asked where they came from, and when he got caught he refused to admit it, even though the country contains lots of people over age six. So, what has Fox news done even remotely like that?

Didn't Karol hand you your ass last time you were here? Stop embarrassing yourself, man!

Posted by: Eric at October 22, 2006 10:02 PM

CNN admitted that they downplayed or didn't report at all the atrocities committed by Saddam. Fk 'em.

Bouldin: How about some dimmie quotes before President Bush came to town: Dummies usually fall down the hole they have dug themselves, don't hit the sides on the way down. For an educated elitest you sure are stupid, but that seems to be the one thing the left wing has in common, stupidity.

I especially like the quote for 'Socks Bergular'.

“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.”
President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998.

“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998.

“Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.”
Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998.

“He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.”
Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

“[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.”
Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others Oct. 9, 1998.

“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998.

“Hussein has … chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.”
Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999.

Considering the enmity toward Fox held by people subscribing to the Boudin worldview, I think if Fox had ever just pulled something out of it's corporate tuchus (a a CBS, NBC, and the NYT, just off the top of my head) we'd have concrete examples!

Just imagine the shivering ecstacy FireDogLake would experience if any of her minions uncovered a "Memogate" type operation from Fox. Cleaning up after the party would require five dumptrucks, hazmat suits, and a superhuman ability to embrace diversity.

Shawn,
I agree, that is why i like the BBC and PBS.

Posted by: PAUL at October 23, 2006 08:41 PM

Yeah, Paul except that BBC admitted this week that it's biased against America and caters to Islamofascists.

Gawrsh, t'wern't nuthin'

Yeah, Paul except that BBC admitted this week that it's biased against America and caters to Islamofascists.
