And lest Democrats get too happy
Guess who is still president?
That's right:

It's Presidente. Arnold flew off to Mexico to thank them for their votes and the mayor of LA is in DC meeting with Presidente Bush and his Co-Presidente, Caldaron.
Captain Unilateral!!!
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at November 8, 2006 12:40 PMStill president but I don't think he is the "Decider" anymore. After promising us two more years of Rummy, Bush bowed to political realities today and made the old guy fall on his sword.
Posted by: Von Bek at November 8, 2006 01:13 PMRumsfeld fell on his sword standing up. It went clean through his back and out his chest.
Good luck on that privatization of Social Security, Mr. President.
Posted by: Charles at November 8, 2006 01:18 PMFuck Bush! Bring back Rummy!
Posted by: jay at November 8, 2006 01:22 PMRummy has resigned.
Posted by: AmerPun at November 8, 2006 01:41 PMI hear Rummy resigned due to the failure moving the Intrepid, but I could be wrong.
Posted by: toby at November 8, 2006 02:01 PMYou're an idiot.
Posted by: at November 8, 2006 02:12 PMIs that Jim Nicholson or Vincente Fox?
And yes, that's a serious question.
Posted by: Gerard at November 8, 2006 05:21 PMI liken the country's voting in the Dem's to that phenomenon where each time people drink too much and get sick, they vow never to drink alcohol again. But of course, some people do.
Posted by: Dino at November 8, 2006 08:21 PMThe problem is that when you take inflexible positions on issues and then are forced to recant you look even weaker than if you had capitulated at the very beginning of the debate.
You think President Bush would have realized this after the failed nomination of Harriet Miers to the SCOTUS, DP-World's abortive effort to take over P&0, etc., etc., ad nauseam.
Posted by: Gerard at November 8, 2006 08:29 PMGoals shouldn't be inflexible and bend from poll to poll to ensure one's popularity. Bush wasn't inflexible in the nomination of Harriet Miers, and was the one to withdraw it in favor of Alito.
I'm not aware that Bush was forced to recant anything of late. Have we pulled out of Iraq and no one bothered to tell me?
Posted by: Dino at November 8, 2006 08:47 PMRumsfeld should have gone sooner. Some would say for poor strategy, some for lying. I say if you send an army out of your country you give them the best armour money can buy, and he (ultimately0 did not do this. For shame.
Posted by: bryan at November 8, 2006 09:03 PMBush, Republicans more dangerous than ever! You're all doomed.
Liberals, kill yourselves before you all end up in the Halliburton Detention Camps™!
Posted by: Radical Redneck at November 8, 2006 09:20 PMbryan, check out History ... we've never gone to war possessing the technology needed at the start, but always had it towards the end, which ensured our winning. Neccessity is the mother of invention. The armour we need in Iraq has been an ongoing process to perfect and supply. We had to borrow, and then learn to figure out how to use tanks in WWI. There were similar adjustments to be made for WWII, since we started it with pretty much the same technology we had from WWI. Same goes for the Korean War. It's not as simple as simpletons think.
Posted by: Dino at November 8, 2006 10:28 PMDino, bollocks. Ten days after hitting Iraq, the military should've had the armoured transport (this is not new technology), ditto more men. That is if you think there was a legal reason to invade in the first place.
Posted by: bryan at November 8, 2006 10:56 PM"Have we pulled out of Iraq?"
No.
That'll only happen once Charlie Rangel & Co. enacts its gloss on the Hatfield Amendment in the next session of Congress.
The fact that he withdrew the nomination of Miers illustrates my point perfectly.
He took an inflexible stance on a sure loser, i.e. she was going to be the next associate justice on the SC, only to retreat when reality finally hit him and Andy Card.

This war is not about technology or lack there of.
You’ve been fighting an enemy that lacks modern armour, that lacks high tech communications, that lacks body armour, that has no air support, that cannot call in artillery when needed, that lacks medical or logistical support, and lacks all means of modern surveillance. More technology is not going to win this conflict – this conflict was misguided from the get go.
Toowoozy, the enemy does have body armor, literally, aka human shields. It's not so much technology in the sense of computer-age gizmos, I'm talking about hardware. We didn't possess the neccesary amount of armor plating on vehicles and the body armor we started with wasn't sufficient. That takes time to make the neccesary alterations. War has never been convenient. The mistake made was that we thought that Iraq would be like Afghanistan and that we'd get more support from Iraqis. That's the criticism right there, that we didn't get into this war prepared. We've never been more prepared for any other war than we were for this one, but we're never going to know what we need when fighting new enemies until we engage them in battle. It's not all about technology, but that will help cut down on our casualties.
Though the enemy isn't as technologically advanced as we are, it's not like they're Ewoks, fighting us with sticks and stones.
How can you say it lacks high-tech communications?
They have their own production company, for goodness sake.
Posted by: Gerard at November 9, 2006 01:21 PMWow, Bush is President.
Whoopee
Awesome
Fantastic news for conservatives. Nothing like having a principled member of our faction to further it's ideals.
(The above is sarcasm by the way)
P.S.: Thankapile for letting Rumsfeld go the day AFTER the election. You could have done that two months ago, preserved our Senate majority, and kept the hope of a Constitutional Supreme Court majority alive, but you chose the more important option of not having people think you were being political. Again, thanxapile!
