Stand in the place where you live

Grade-one gadfly thinks Bush should push for a new Iraq vote. I like the idea of everyone getting on record as to their current position on Iraq. It's one thing for politicians to blabber on about how we need to "seriously consider..." or "look carefully at...", it's another to actually be forced to do something.

well Bush seems to be saying fresh ideas are needed and has invited the dems to come up with some. this implies that he himself is without a clue as to how to continue. I'm not sure anyone knows, from either side.

Let me get this straight. It's dumb to call for an immediate pullout, but entirely reasonable to put people to the "Stay or Go" question? I guess it means you have to force a tactical success in order to hide a strategic failure.

I think it's dumb to call for immediate pullout, yes, but there's plenty of Democrats who have done just that. I want them on the record as favoring that option. Americans may be sick of the war, they may be tired of our troops dying and our money being spent, but I know my Americans and there's no way they want to cut and run. I think they deserve their elected officials to let them know if they feel the same.

I think Duncan Hunter proposed exactly the same thing and I think there were less than 5 votes for it. All in all, it did not go over very well as it reeked of putting politics over policy.

The sad part is after the American people politically castrated Bush last week, I think that more than a few Republicans would probably vote to cut and run. Hell, wasn't that idiot Frist saying something like that a few months ago ?
