Off to a good start
New UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was asked if French should remain official language of the UN. He responded that he didn't understand the question (asked in French).

J'aime ce type.
Posted by: Marco at December 15, 2006 01:32 PMI don't understand why French should be one of the required languages for the UN. Nothing useful or important is ever said in French.
On second thought, French should be the only language allowed at the UN.
Posted by: Jake at December 15, 2006 02:08 PMI wasn't quite sure is you were being serious or sarcastic. Off to a good start for not caring enough to practice French is pretty OK in my book. If it's sarcastic, as in the new guy ain't prepared, well, then, it still slights the French. Win-win.

Posted by: Karol at December 15, 2006 03:00 PMWell, there are 30 countries where French is the official language: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_where_French_is_an_official_language
I say he should make the French eat kimchee.

Read that a little more carefully. That's a list of countries where French is an official language. I think it would be difficult to argue, for example, that French is the official language of Canada, Belgium, or many of the other countries on that list.
I don't see why the top UN guy should be required to know French, English, Russian, or any other language. If we want to pick the language spoken by the most people, Mandarin Chinese is the obvious choice for "international language".
Hell, I'd rather see the rebirth of Esperanto for international politics than pick an existing language the Secretary General must know.
Posted by: Eric at December 15, 2006 05:41 PMJust more idiotic French garbage. Keep the boycott of France going. I haven't stopped and suspect thousand of people are still with it to punish the traitors. Now if we could Boycott Frenchboy Cary, as the soldiers in Iraq named him.
