What is wrong with Dinesh D'Souza?

I'm someone that loved "Letters to a Young Conservative", "What's So Great About America", "The End of Racism" and other Dinesh D'Souza books. So I'm just stunned that his latest book seems written by a different person entirely. Allah and Powerline have the details.

of course it's true that much of the reason radical islam hates america is because of liberals gone wild. dinesh is certainly right about that. but they also hate us for countless other reasons, one being that america is not an islamic nation. better then not to get into the habit of shaping this country so that its image might be improved in the eyes of irrational holy warriors, lest we throw away america's identity in a vain attempt at appeasement.

I'm not one to prejudge a book based upon the conclusions of others, especially those that come in the way of book reviews by avowedly antagonistic scholars

I can't help but think of the general impression people have that The Real Anita Hill is a partisan hatchet-job directed against Clarence Thomas's accusers-which it isn't-or that Brock's subsequent book was a beatification of Hillary-which it isn't-whenever I see a consensus developing about a particularly contoversial polemic.

That being said, a book that includes such a blatantly inaccurate, and easily disproved, assertion, i.e. Despite being considered a friend of the Palestinians, he “has not launched a single attack against Israel” doesn't seem-at first glance-to be that well-researched.

"He" being Osama Bin Laden, and "Israel" being the country that owns El-Al Airlines.

Whoops!!!

Classical Values ripped into him too, serving him up as a counterpoint to the Carteresque democrats. Ouch.

there was an excellent review in sunday's times. you know, conservatives used to be the smart, edgy ones. whatever happened to that?

The easy answer is that D'Souza has been hanging out with Coulter and Ingram for too long.

The hard answer is that D'Souza simply fails to understand the American people. We're nationalists and patriotic-while he may see our culture as trash, we happen to like it no matter how much crap is on tv. While we don't like the Hollywood left, if the choice comes between them or a bunch of Islamic terrorists, we'll take Hollywood any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

D'Souza simply does not have the roots in the ole USA to understand this and I'm not refering to his birth in India. D'Souza is a creature of the Beltway and the City and I don't think you can get a good feel of what America is all about in either location.

It's amazing how out of touch a lot of conservative pundits are with the heartland. D'Souza is but one example. The National Review and Deroy Murdoch are others, especially after their glowing reviews of Mayor Rudy as pro-life. They may claim to be representing the red states but increasingly they simply should not be read.
