Three minute hate

Email of the day:

I notice Ace is getting a little worked up about it [the fake bomb plot in Boston] and I suspect that some of it might have to do with the incident making Boston look like a town full of retards. Great response time there, folks... These lite brites are a threat to humanity, but it took you over a week to notice them. I'm not telling you how to blog or anything, but this seems ripe for an off-season New York-Boston hate fest.

I can't really hate. As far as second-tier cities go, it's pretty decent.

With no Superbowl to get excited about they had to find something to keep themselves relevant. NY never seems to have that issue.

Question from non American.

Why do Boston and New York dislike each other so much?

I know NY replaced Boston after the Civil War as the country's financial centre but that by itself seems like a poor reason.

Historically curious.
