I'm not even a Prince fan and I agree
After years of halftime shows that wavered between T&A exercises (Janet Jackson's "Nipplegate") and musical acts for the Geritol set (Rolling Stones & Paul McCartney), The Artist Formerly And Once Again Known As Prince gave one of the best "live" performances (even allowing for the prominent backing tracks) ever: A mixture of classic hits -- starting off with "Let's Go Crazy", plus classic rock tunes ("Proud Mary" and "All Along The Watchtower" -- more Hendrix version than Dylan); taking the Foo Fighters "The Best of You" and making it his own -- and finishing up, of course, with "Purple Rain." We went nuts at my local bar.Posted by Karol at February 5, 2007 12:19 PM | TrackBack

Me neither, but I do agree-to a certain extent.
I didn't think the performance was that great, to be honest, but in comparison to Super Bowl half-time entertainment in years past it was a tour de force.
Can't say the same for Billy Joel, unfortunately.
Whoever thought it would be a good idea to get an alcoholic to sing the Star-Spangled Banner-which even the best voices can't sing on key-needs to be pinkslipped.
When that sheet went flying up and his shadow got cast through it, it was an Austin Powers LOL hoot.
..and after a year of supermodels falling on (dry) Paris runways, Prince's high-heeled dancers never slipped on that wet stage. I was most impressed with that.
Posted by: michael parker at February 5, 2007 01:52 PMI thought he did a tremendous Prince Karaoke. The best even.
Why aren't there more pictures from the Superbowl party ? I do believe however that SMFA's place is supposed to be Papparazzi free.
Hey also checking out your Myspace I see that you're set to private. You know that's the first step to deleting the account. I support you fully in this endeavor and the first few steps are crucial.
"My name is Dan and I've been myspace free for 8 months" etc....
Posted by: dan the x-Republican at February 5, 2007 04:39 PMDan, I avoided SMVP (he hasn't been FA in years!) and the Dude, got everyone else. When they're old and wondering why we all have young, cute pictures of ourselves, I'll remind them of that. The few pics I did take are here: flickr.com/photos/alarmingnews/
I still love the My Spacing but did want to control who gets to see what.
Posted by: Karol at February 5, 2007 04:43 PMPrince was horrific, and this comes from someone who was actually looking forward to his performance. The man has some good, danceable party songs in his repertoire, so why play a medley of boring and/or overplayed covers? It was almost as if CBS' marketing wizards handed him a list and said, "play this." Actually, I think they did that as well as insist upon some females dancers, lest some viewers get the wrong idea about what was going on.
My suggestion? The Roots. Who doesn't like the Roots crew? Honestly, tell me who.
Posted by: Simon Cowell at February 5, 2007 04:51 PMI don't see that happening.
You know who would be great for the Super Bowl?
They Might Be Giants.
They're commercial, they're improvizational-the best, IMHO-but don't completely suck, which would be a nice change of pace for the National Football League.
