Me, me, me

I'm quoted, in today's NY Daily News, making fun of Carl Kruger's dumb ipod-ban proposal. (Hat-tip Porko).

So far, though, no reporter seems to want to take up my challenge of finding out where Carl Kruger went to college. C'mon people who get paid to do this: isn't it odd that he doesn't have his college listed anywhere in his biography?

According to this CUNY web-page he's an alumnus of my alma mater.

From Electives To Election

Keep in mind, Una Clarke's halfwitted daughter was thought to be a graduate of Medgar Evers-until that notion was dispelled by some diligent fact-checkers-so take this with a grain of salt.

It doesn't say he's an alumnus. I'm guessing here (and, again, I'm not a reporter and not pretending to be) but I think he attended CUNY and didn't graduate. The word is he's got one of them internet-purchased degrees. Though, again, I'm basing this on heresay and not research.

It says x number of alumni serve in the state legislature or City Council, then includes quotes from some legislators-including Kruger.

I suppose the inference is that he's one of those BC. alumni alluded to above.

But it doesn't give a time frame-or a degree-so chances are that you're right.

It reminds me of the voters' guides the CFB distributes every election cycle.

When Al Sharpton ran for mayor it had "Brooklyn College" listed under "education," which I presume means he enrolled in one or two continuing education courses.

I suppose it looks better on your curriculum vitae than "high school graduate."

Then again, Schmucky Schumer graduated from Hahhh-verd, and I wouldn't trust him to defend me out of a parking ticket in court.

I don't remember much about Kruger from my time in NY though apparently he is a friend of Israel and a member of Dems for Pataki. Ah, but what does the Dems for Pataki link tell us.

http://www.georgepataki.com/d4p_docs/about/

"Senator Kruger has a B.S. in Political Science and resides with his family in the Georgetowne portion of the District."

Uh ok. But from where ? Now look, I think a politician can do a lot of good work without a college degree (former Sen. Faircloth and Harry Truman come to mind).

But this is silly. Look at Vote Smart.

http://www.vote-smart.org/bio.php?can_id=BS022192

B.S. Political Science.

Curious.

Now look. I have no problems with online and distance degrees as long as they are regionally accredited and NY's own Exceslior College has done a lot of good over the last 30 someodd years. Ditto a lot of distance programs, including Regent , Liberty, Nova Southeastern and so on. So maybe he has something from a diploma mill or he went back to school and got his BS sometime after his political career began.

Edolphus Towns, and a couple of other state legislators, endorsed Pataki as well.

I don't think it really has any significance, other than demonstrating the political opportunism among public officials in this city.

The fact that it doesn't state the university or college from where he obtained his diploma is telling though.

If he was enrolled in a legitimate, degree-bearing program-and graduated with a legitimate Bachelor's of Science degree-he wouldn't be reluctant to admit so publicly.

Even that nutbar John Hagelin bragged about his matriculation at Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Transcendental Karma U., or whatever that crackpot school in Iowa is called.

I thought Hagelin teaches with the gurus out in Iowa though he may have gone there at some point. He has a PhD in physics from Harvard and went to Dartmoth for his undergrad (a friend of mine was doing op research for Buchanan during the Reform Party battle and said that Hagelin's acadmeic credentials were good but he had pretty much been chased from the discipline over the years).
