They elected a pro-wrestler, don't think they won't elect crazy Al

It's official, Al Franken is running for U.S. Senate in Minnesota.

Hat-tip Fallen Sparrow.

Hold up. Ventura was not just a wrestler. He had served as mayor of Brooklyn Park, a fairly large suburb of the Twin Cities. While certainly an odd man, he was not unqualified to be governor.

Not to mention he was a Green Beret in Vietnam, which is a lot more than I can say for Bush II or Clinton.

Not to mention that he wears a pink feather boa and bedazzled shades better than any other politician in recent memory.

Wasn't he actually a Navy SEAL, not Green Beret? I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

GLOBAL WARMING IS REAL!!!!!!!!!!

I think he was a Navy Seal...in The Philippines.

But yeah, he did have some qualifications for elective office, especially when you compared him to his opponents at the time.

Well that's the thing. Ventura ran against my three sons: young Mondale, young Freeman and young Humphrey. With some exceptions (say the Harrisons or the Adamses) American political dynasties seem to get dumber in each generation (see the Bushes, Kennedys, Roosevelts, Tafts, Gores and so on). And who do we have coming up ? Hillary, wife of Bill. Mitt, son of George. There's only so much of these wars of dynastic ambitions we good republican citizens of the US can take. Jesse Ventura 08 really would not bother me that much.

Jesse Ventura ran a great campaign that was in sync with what voters were looking for at the time. Most importantly, he found a way to appeal to liberals, conservatives, and moderates.

Franken will get the votes of people who hate Norm Coleman and people who think he's incredibly funny. Beyond that maybe 35% of the state, it's going to be tough.

Jesse Ventura was a UDT frogman. At the time, there was a distinction in rating and mission. They have merged since then, as the UDT mission has dried up.

Jason:

You are right. DUh.

Either way, it beats Bush 2's gig and Clinton's non-gig, hands-down.
