I don't know if it's war, or just a long, global struggle against information centrism.

If there's a war between the press and the White House, it's been carried on cheifly by Washington press correspondents with an over-inflated sense of self-worth. As Ace pointed out, not many people could do the crazy-difficult job of "writing shit down that other people say."
