Dark horse?
Now this would be interesting:
[Fred] Thompson has told allies in recent days that he is exploring seriously a bid for president in 2008 in response to what he has described as strong encouragement from Republicans dissatisfied with the current slate of candidates.
I do love me some Fred Thompson. Although I wonder sometimes if it's Thompson or his Law & Order character Arthur Branch that I so admire. I would love to see another "rock star" in the race, though, if only because I believe, yes still, that our current one can't win the primary. Allah writes "I’m receptive, seriously." Me too, seriously.
UPDATE: He endorsed John McCain in 2000. If he doesn't run, I wonder if he will do the same this time.

I like Thompson. He's more conservative than McCain or Rudy or even Hukabee; not the flip flopper that Romney is; not Newt; more of a star than Brownback and Gilmore and Hunter. He also is enough of a Washington outsider (and has not been in office since 2002) to avoid most of the fallout from the W. meltdown (though his role with Scooter Libby could be a problem). Thompson is about as good a candidate as anyone for the GOP in 2008.

And they'll play that great dung-dong sound every time the cameras cut between his scenes.

Posted by: Brennan at March 9, 2007 02:46 PMI like Thompson too.
Anyone remember the Lippogate hearings he held in the U.S. Senate?
The man has gravitas.
Posted by: Gerard at March 9, 2007 07:12 PMI'll take Giuliani, Gingrich, Snow, then Thompson. In that order.
Posted by: kende at March 9, 2007 07:30 PMThe former Sec'y of the Treasury?

Fred Thompson as the Flag Admiral in 'Hunt for Red October'
THAT is the guy I want to be President.
Posted by: DiscerningTexan at March 11, 2007 11:36 PMFred Thompson is good on some issues, but I'm all in for Congressman Ron Paul.
