According to this post (in Russian - can you read it?) by a journalist living in Paris,
Kouchner was expelled from socialist party after he accepted the position - but before that he was called "a pride of the Party" and the most promising member on the rise - even at one point considered as a presidential candidate. Makes me pause.
On the other hand, the post describes another new member of Sarkozy's government - Minister of Justice Rachida Dati, his spokeswoman during campaign and a first French woman of Arab descent on this position. 12th child of the Moroccan bricklayer and Algerian housewife (per other sources, her mother worked as a janitor) - Sorbonne-educated lawyer who became a judge.
We live in interesting times...
