Tonight in NYC

I've been slacking with the upkeep of Rightevents.com. I hope to have the September list up by tonight but in the meantime, there's two good events tonight to which I'd like to draw the attention of right-leaning New Yorkers:

Debates at Lolita Bar- “Is Muslim Immigration a Threat to Democracy?”

YES: rock-singer-turned-filmmaker Brian McCarter.

NO: Stephen Suleyman Schwartz of the Center for Islamic Pluralism.

Todd Seavey hosts and Michel Evanchik moderates.

Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 8pm (free admission, cash bar, beloved a.c.).
The debates, usually pitting two opponents against each other (in a civil and often humorous fashion), take place on the basement level of Lolita Bar at 266 Broome St. at the corner of Allen St. on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, one block south and three west of the Delancey St. F, J, M, Z subway stop.

Also, the state-party affiliated Young Republican club is having its monthly social. Deets:

7:00-10:00pm, Come drink, meet new young professionals, and be in a friendly environment at Vintage, 753 Ninth Avenue between 50th & 51st Streets. This place literally wrote the bible on martinis. Over 60 people last month.

democracy is over-rated. (not a "bad" notion... just highly overrated)

let's not worry over what is or isn't a threat to it.

Because, hey, all those other forms have worked so well lately.

I say that Muslim Immigration is 1/100th the threat that apathy is, but I just work here.*

*Well, not technically work, as Karol doesn't pay me. Wait, a second...

But the real event this week (and I say this even though I hosted the Islam debate) is your man Fred Thompson officially entering the race, Karol -- so we need an epic blog entry explaining your take on his pro's and con's, by all imaginable criteria, libertarian, conservative, and otherwise.

Posted by: Todd Seavey at September 6, 2007 10:51 AM

I can't wait to shout some of these people down....weeee! See you kids there.

Posted by: joaquinochoa at September 6, 2007 12:41 PM

Is there ever a "sensible" killing? I mean, I don't think necessary = sensible (and I've been described as a "Pro Death" Conservative), so wouldn't that make _all_ killing senseless?

At the end of the day, a war results from what is usually a long-term of circumstances in which any number of decisions could have prevented the instance where folks take weapons to one another.

Just feeling contrarian to an oft-repeated phrase that seems to be overused.

Posted by: James at September 6, 2007 12:44 PM

The debate was yesterday, Joaquin. And I deleted the other comment you left using a fake name. Nice try, though.

Posted by: Karol at September 6, 2007 12:49 PM

Karol,

I'm not sure what you are talking about?

"Pro Death" shit, you wouldn't know what to do if a gun were in your hand...you would shit your pants if you had to kill someone...pifft.

It is nesessary to kill people who invade someone's land? Ahhhh...some people would say that not helping the people in Katrina was a good thing because those people had to die. Thank goodness the government didn't help those people is what you are saying...poor-poor soul...may God bless you and America.

Only in that vast, empty, unused space between your overwaxed, hairplugged ears. Good thing you carry that massive chip on your scrawny shoulders - otherwise you'd have nothing substantial at all at head level.

Anencephelic.
