Last week on Long Island
I spent the holiday in Long Beach, New York. LBNY put in new benches on the boardwalk a few years back and people bought the right to inscribe them with the message of your choice. Here are two fairly typical examples:
I was there a few days after the 6-year anniversary of 9/11 and was amazed at how many plaques memorialize Long Beach residents that died that day:
It's easy to forget that this wasn't just Manhattan's tragedy. Beyond that, I don't really have a point, I just wanted to share these pictures.

Those remind me of some of the benches on the boardwalk over at Ocean Grove, NJ.
I don't know the exact breakdown in terms of fatalities, but Long Island was really hard-hit. I think Middletown, NJ lost more people than any other part of the Tri-State Area, and a lot of people over here were killed that day. You can't walk more than a block in my neighborhood without passing some sort of 9/11 memorial, esp. in the form of street signs.
