I love election season
**Rudy calls Romney a "not outstanding governor" in an interview conducted by Philip Klein. Go read the whole thing, not only because Philip had to cut his Thanksgiving weekend in NY short to go to New Hampshire and get it. (Sidenote for those commenting on my movie post below: I went to see "No Country For Old Men" with Philip the other night and it was definitely the best movie I've seen in some time.)
**John McCain loves America enough to "make some people angry".
**Nobody can tear down a candidate quite like Robert Novak. You're up, Huckabee.
**The ex-Taliban spokesman, now Yale student, Sayed Rahmatullah Hashemi, was in a pro-Obama Facebook group but recently left the group over objections from friends. He gives Ben Smith a very quotable response on why Obama can't win.
**Speaking of Facebook, my Facebook friend Errol Lewis has a piece today about Mitt Romney's Mormonism. He says it matters, and should.
UPDATED:
**Does Hillary's style evoke concern among critics? Oh, c'mon now.
**I read this piece about John Edward's candidacy and mostly just thought "Oh yeah, John Edwards is still running for president."

McCain makes me angry all the time, he must really, really love America.
Posted by: at November 26, 2007 02:29 PMThere's little chance that a devout follower of Rastafarianism, the Unification Church or the Nation of Islam - not just a believer, but a leader - could expect to run for high political office and not get a couple of questions about what they believe and what public actions they took as a church leader.
Really?
Care to recount the blistering journalistic interrogations of NOI acolyte Keith Ellison when he ran for Congress, Errol?
Something tells me that the fact that Barack Obama belongs to a pseudo-Christian, Marxist, racist church that preaches liberation theology and anti-Semitic vitriol hasn't escaped his notice, but for some inexplicable reason I've yet to hear it mentioned when he subs for Brian Lehrer on WNYC, or read about that association in any of the columns he's penned for the NY Daily News.
Also, does someone proofread Errol's columns, just out of curiosity?
Those contradictory statements won't cut it. And they don't sidestep the plain fact that Mormonism, like the other faiths I mentioned, is not a Christian religion.
This is a sore point with Romney and other Mormons, who emphasize their reverence for Jesus, belief in His divinity, and the fact that the religion's official name is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Those protests hold little water with leaders of most Christian denominations. In 2001, the Catholic doctrinal office (then headed by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, who is now the Pope) decreedMormons must be re-baptized to join the Catholic Church. Methodists, Presbyterians and Baptists have similar official disclaimers.
Yes, when you enter into another faith you generally have to be rebaptized.
I would love to find out how much the Daily News pays this dumb-ass.
Thank goodness editors of The Sun had enough good sense to cut him loose.
Sheesh.
Alright, I'll bite Gerard. What about the Church of Christ is racist and anti-Semetic? The Church of Christ always struck me as one of the mushier forms of sideline Protestantism (it used to be called mainline but I think sideline is a much better fit now) best personified by the lousy ad a few years back of gay and minorities being tossed out of the church. If you mean they only think salvation can be obtained through accepting Jesus as Lord, then I would think you would have to include almost all Christians as anti-Semites, an obviously intolerable conclusion. So what exactly is so intolerable about the oh so tolerant UCofC?
While I generally agree with Lewis that Mormonism is outside the bounds of Christianity (it deviates way too far from the Nicean Creed folks), the baptism card is not the one to play. That's not a deal killer for me, I backed a Mormon before for the White House (ah Orrin we hardly knew ye) and I am suspecting that when it comes down for me to vote, I'll be looking at Rudy against Romney which means Romney. Sniff, sniff....I don't think my boy Duncan Hunter is going to make it.
Posted by: Von Bek at November 26, 2007 07:24 PM1. Obama is a member of the United Church of Christ, not the Churches of Christ . Two entirely different denominations.
You might be confusing him with Fred Thompson.
2. I'm not directing my critique at the broader church, but the ministry-if you could even call it that-which attends to Barack's spiritual needs when he is in the Chicago area. Namely, This guy
3. I apologize for the VDareish reply. Usually I don't go this apeshit in terms of hypertext links.
Posted by: Gerard at November 26, 2007 08:19 PMi wonder why mccain didn't mention pissing off nearly EVERYONE in america with his immigration plan. if making people angry is a reason to vote for someone, it seems like hed want it on that commercial.
Posted by: brent j. at November 26, 2007 10:47 PMI had a long diatribe lined up, but this guy says what I want to say in a much shorter and concise manner. The Republican establishment is so caught up with beating Hillary that it could care less if it sells it

False conservative? How about Giuliani (see gun rights, abortion, gay marriage, personal life, taxes/spending)? How about Romney (see gay marriage, abortion, healthcare)? Thompson (abortion, campaign finance reform, affirmative action)? God Bless the Gipper, but he's long gone. Let's run on ideas and substance, not rhetorical posturing aimed at securing Coulter, Novak, and The Corner's blessing.
Just my .02.

False conservative? Come on, Bob. How about Giuliani (see gun rights, abortion, gay marriage, personal life, taxes/spending)? How about Romney (see gay marriage, abortion, healthcare)? Thompson (abortion, campaign finance reform, affirmative action)? McCain (see entire career)?. God Bless the Gipper, but he's long gone. Let's run on ideas and substance, not rhetorical posturing aimed at securing Coulter, Novak, and The Corner's blessing.
