You, Jew
Six days before President Nicolas Sarkozy visits Algiers, the Algerian veterans' minister has kicked up a storm with remarks about France's "Jewish lobby" being behind his election. The Algerian minister, Mohamed Cherif Abbas, was quoted in the Al Khabar daily on Monday as attributing Sarkozy's rise to power to a powerful "Jewish lobby" that he said held sway over French politics.
He also linked this to Sarkozy's roots -- the president's maternal grandfather was Jewish.
France has responded by saying they were surprised at the comments since the two countries have never been closer. Is it too much to ask for Sarkozy to cancel his trip if no official apology from the Algerian government is forthcoming?
Hat-tip Ark.
