On Food

Not to get all Olive Garden commercial on y'all, but if there's something better than eating good food with people you enjoy, I don't know about it. Two recommendable restaurants, from the weekend, for my NY readers:

Wild Salmon- this beautiful space on 3rd and 40th has seen a bunch of restaurants pass through, Tuscan, Tuscan Steak, English is Italian (my favorite incarnation) and now Wild Salmon. It was very tasty but the sides made the meal. The sweet walla walla creamed corn is off the hizook.

Asia De Cuba used to be this impossible-to-get-into hotspot and the trendiness of the place (all white, $15 drinks, a long communal table in the middle) would overwhelm you upon entrance (it's also in a hotel. I mean, really.) But the food is outstanding. I have cravings for their calamari salad, tunapica and lobster mash potatoes. Their short ribs melt in your mouth.

Spare ribs, lobster mash, wild rice

They also make a mean mojito. And because it's been open for awhile now, we got reservations for two on Saturday night with only two hours notice.

Also, the fellas ordered Daisy Mays BBQ during football (you go, Jets!) watching yesterday and it was really good. I prefer the dry rub ribs. And the sweet potatos were really to die.

I'm looking to make dinner tonight so leave me suggestions in the comment section. I just bought the Nigella book "How to Eat" (see, I'm serious about this learning to cook stuff), on the recommendation of reader Cristina, so suggestions from the book are especially helpful.

I recently discovered the joy of the Crock-Pot, can't go wrong with stews for the cold weather

What do you have in your fridge?

Seltzer and an 10 of a 12-pack of yogurt. OH! And also leftovers from Asia De Cuba which I'm going to go eat right now.

Ohhhhhhh you mean to cook for dinner. I'm going to go to Agata or Citarella.

Well, to me to "make dinner" means to "cook dinner". Altern.:, "to arrive in time for dinner". Which one did you mean?

It depends on so many things, K.
How many people? what's the occasion? is it "meat-n-potatoes" or 'sole medallions in sauce hollanndaise'(sp?) crowd? what's your budget? Etc, etc.
For assortment of dishes you can look @J.Pepin's site, here http://www.jacquespepin.net/members/recipes/index.html
