I feel your pain
Or, her own pain: Hillary cries. Vid here.
While it's true that men have teared up on the campaign trail, this really does nothing to advance the idea that women can handle pressure as well as men.
UPDATE:
Huh? What am I missing here? What, exactly, made her break down here?:
The last question of the Q&A breakfast session came from Maryann Pernold, a 64-year-old undecided Democrat. Pernold said that as a woman “I know it’s hard to get out of the house and get ready,” she said. “Who does your hair?”“It’s not easy, it’s not easy,” Clinton said shaking her head. Her eyes began to get watery as she finished answering the question, “I couldn’t do it if I didn’t just passionately believe it was the right thing to do,” she said. “I have so many ideas for this country and I just don’t want to see us fall backwards as a nation. This is very personal for me,” she said to a quiet round of supportive applause. “It’s about our country, it’s about our kids’ future, it’s really about all of us together,” she said tearing up, her voice cracking.
Maybe I'm cynical and cold-hearted but my guess is that this was a set-up to make her seem more human and likeable. I just don't buy the way this went down.

Oh not cynical at all. I instantly figured there was a cry cue card, personally.
Posted by: Jennifer at January 7, 2008 05:55 PMI kind of buy it, she's probably running on empty, stressed at a fairly sudden turnaround in what for months has been forecast to be a walkover for her. If she was trying to milk it I think it's not the cleverest move, as a woman the truth is she cannot afford the tears; whereas her husband producing a well timed tear in the eye would have been perceived as sensitive, with her it equates weakness with every person who questions a female presidency. Sadly Hilary's only shot is what her advisors are probably now making her throw out - her toughness. If she is trying to compete with Obama on the charisma/human charm offensive she is strongly misled and should stick to her guns.
Posted by: Steff at January 7, 2008 06:02 PMWhat? No mention of Muskie? It's crying in New Hampshire people!
Posted by: Von Bek at January 7, 2008 07:06 PMI actually agree with you, Karol.
I saw that little meltdown, and watched it in context to the questions and the rest of her spiel, and, to be honest, the timing didn't seem geniune in relation to the rest of the talk.
Also, a successful argument could be made that, if that was an example of Hillary expressing an authentic, candid moment, she certainly doesn't seem capable of a profound level of believable emotion.
She really needs to get it together and start running a campaign for the 21st century.
Posted by: hashfanatic at January 7, 2008 07:13 PMI agree with Steff. As much as I think Hillary is normally a calculated climber, I don't think this helps her and I don't think she would have been advised to do it. She's watching her lifelong dream float out of her grasp and she's frustrated.
Posted by: Eric at January 7, 2008 07:51 PMCan you imagine Margaret Thatcher shedding tears as a political ploy? Or Golda Meir? Or Indira Gandhi?
Senator Clinton set back the perceptions of women presidential candidates for years to come.

Posted by: rachel dedic at January 8, 2008 12:23 AMToday's NY Sun revealed Thatcher cried in public twice.
First, when her son was believed lost in the Sahara (which heck if you wouldn't cry for this, you'd be criticized for pulling a Dukakis) and the other was when she resigned as Prime Minister.
I have to believe that she wasn't crying for her "Country" but crying for herself and how thru all her complaints, she hasn't been properly vetted. Heck, no Democrat is.
To quote Taranto: "Mrs. Clinton would seem to be in trouble now because she believed the narrative of "inevitability" that she put forward and the news media echoed. As we argued Friday, it's an example of how friendly media breed complacency in liberal politicians."
