Facing reality
Dear Fred Thompson: If you don't win South Carolina, and boy I hope you do, it's time to go.

Whatever. Did Duncan Hunter bail after Iowa? Noooo.
Posted by: See-Dubya at January 9, 2008 01:51 PMDear Duncan Hunter: please exit the race.
Posted by: Karol at January 9, 2008 02:03 PMI realize the polls have made a lot of us look silly the last couple weeks (among other things, I declared McCain out of the race a couple weeks ago...)
but still, Thompson currently has only 5% support in South Carolina, (not to mention only 4% support in Michigan and only 8% in Florida, suggesting he's more than 20% away from being competitive anywhere prior to Feb. 5th). Do we really have to wait until South Carolina for him to withdraw?
Posted by: charlie at January 9, 2008 04:17 PMFred will make for a good VP. So would Hunter.
I actually told the NY Post last night that I think if Fred can't place first in South Carolina, he should leave the race. Maybe stay in through Feb 5 if he places second, but really, he's taking votes away from Ron Paul!!!
:)
Posted by: daniel at January 9, 2008 05:09 PMCharlie,
I think Rudy fans should want Fred in past SC anyway. He shares a social con base with Huckabee and he's got the foreign policy crowd with McCain. Anyway, we have to hedge here, Charlie, or I do anyway. I'm happiest with Rudy or Fred as our candidate and want them both to have the best possible chance to make one of those happen.
Posted by: Karol at January 9, 2008 05:18 PMI'm with Karol that my boy Duncan needs to head off to the sunset (but please come back as SecDef or DHS if you are that nuts to take it). I have to say the fact that Thompson did not get as many votes as Dennis Kucinich last night really had me down.
Posted by: Von Bek at January 9, 2008 07:01 PMOur only hope is to draft Jeb Bush!
Posted by: Torson Kehole at January 9, 2008 10:23 PMyeah, just what we need another Bush
Posted by: John Pfeiffer at January 9, 2008 10:37 PMFred could capture the narcoleptic vote.
Posted by: Sluggo at January 10, 2008 12:07 AMWho is Duncan Hunter?
Posted by: JJ at January 10, 2008 01:59 AMAssuming Rudy is able to take Florida, which I'm pretty sure is a winner-take-all state from a delegate perspective, it's not clear what the best 1-2-3 is for Michigan, Nevada and South Carolina. Certainly the best is if things keep floundering around, which means either Huckabee or Romney in Michigan, and the other in Nevada.
I'm in a different spot than you are, though, Karol, in that McCain's my 2nd choice after Rudy. So on the one hand I want McCain to lose the next three to diminish his threat to Giuliani, but on the other hand, if Giuliani doesn't pull through, I want McCain in it to take down Romnabee. So it's a question of who is the smallest threat right now? I think Huck takes SC, so I guess that means I'm pulling for Romney in Mich and Nev. and Huck in SC? Hmm....

That sounds nice, but the truth is liberals can be the same way.

Don't let The Poll oppress your vote.
Thompson is going directly to the voters who are tired of The Poll telling them how to vote; why give up the race so soon out of the gate?
Despite all the negative 'polling' against him Fred raised $350,000 in 24 hours, not bad for a 'lazy' guy.
