Yep, about as good as the cowboys with a trophy romance to boot ;-)

He was IN the race?.. this year?.. really?.. I hadn't noticed.

Posted by: E5 at January 22, 2008 02:41 PM

Karol, let's get drunk. Seriously.

Is that Taps I hear?

Biggest flop in a GOP presidential field since Phil Gramm.

Posted by: Von Bek at January 22, 2008 03:21 PM

But he was the electable candidate, while Ron Paul wasn't worthy of being taken seriously by the MSM or the pundits. So how did Paul beat him in 3 of 5 races?

The huckster is alive and kicking...fred waited a week too long...screwed huck in SC to help mccain win so he can be the VP if mccain is the nominee

There's only one thing to turn to.
The good memories.

Now, hopefully, he can rest comfortably, and sink back into the inky darkness...

VB:

At least Gramm put a little effort into it.

Posted by: Joe Grossberg at January 22, 2008 06:09 PM

Not really.

Didn't he drop out before the Iowa Caucuses?

Posted by: Gerard at January 22, 2008 06:55 PM

Gerard, between Iowa and NH, after getting stomped by Pat Buchanan down in LA in a caucus that Gramm's people had set up hoping to slingshot him into the nomination. Gramm was known for having one of the biggest warchests any candidate had yet seen till then but ended up with squat, kind of like Big John Connelly in 1980.

Oh - I knew something must have happened today besides Heath Ledger dying.

Posted by: michael parker at January 22, 2008 09:09 PM

Wasn't Forbes also running in '96?

That probably took the wind out of Gramm's sails.

It's so disappointing that Pete Wilson wasn't funded sufficiently, because he would have done some remarkable things as POTUS if his campaign ever got off the ground.

He was a decade ahead of his time.

Malcom Forbes Jr was in the hunt back in 1996 but at the time was a social liberal. He did not become a social conservative till he tried again and was beaten in 2000.

Now Fred can come speak at my club. When I became Prez to the YR back in April, one of the first persons I thought of to be a guest speaker was Fred. But Robert George told me he may be hard to get b/c he's thinking of running for President of the US. I said, "Arthur Branch? President? NO." But Arthur was hard to get. Then he tested the waters, got his approval ratings really high, then let them level off, then entered the race and gave a speech where it seemed like he'd rather be home watching Law & Order than talking to the common man. Well, I'm gonna take another stab on inviting him to speak at my club.
