So, what now?
We're going to get stuck with McCain as our candidate, I just know it.

See what happens in Florida. I still think the GOP nomination is up for grabs.

McCain v. Obama - Say hello to President Obama
Posted by: Toby at January 22, 2008 03:26 PMMcCain is the 2008 version of Bob Dole. He's been around a long time; it's his turn.
Whatever happens, I'm just thankful we won't get Giuliani. Did everyone see the front page of the Times this morning? And people seriously want this vindictive prick to have the power of the presidency?

Who are these people??? Have you ever actually met someone who would vote for him?!
RECOUNT!
Posted by: Rachel at January 22, 2008 04:05 PMyeah, well, not too happy on the other side either.
we're going to get stuck with Clinton.
Posted by: katie g at January 22, 2008 04:20 PMI think Rudy should take a rusty spoon and disembowel the folks who advised him: "Oh yeah, Rudy, you don't need to compete anywhere until Florida."
The guy just absolutely disappeared during the past month. And he started out the race the national favorite, and the favorite in South Carolina, Michigan and New Hampshire.
Note for the future: ALWAYS compete in at least ONE of the first 2-3 races, no matter where the f*ck they are.
Maybe he'll surprise us all in Florida. But I'm doubting it.
I don't like McCain, Huckabee is a religious loon, and Romney is too plastic and phoney.
I'm wagering that my not liking McCain probably means he's a better mainstream, cross-over candidate.
I don't think we can "sit this one out", as people are threatening. There are, without question, Supreme Court retirements coming up. To say nothing of successfully waging the war on terror and keeping the Clintons away from the "Commanding Heights" of our nation's economy (and Sandy Berger away from our national security infrastructure).
Sitting out the general is for the lazy and cowardly. 80-90% of the Republican party's members are not going to see their favorite candidate get the nomination.
Suck it up and deal with it, and worry about greater evils.

I don't believe that's what actually happened.
I absolutely believe he presented his case for the Florida decamp, every one of his advisors that wasn't a total lackey advised him NOT to do it, and he accepted their pleas as complete agreement with his own plan, and he went forward with it.
A leopard doesn't change its spots.
Posted by: hashfanatic at January 22, 2008 04:55 PMWhat about a revived Fred at a brokered convention??
Posted by: hashfanatic at January 24, 2008 07:04 PMBut think of it this way - if it comes down to McCain v. Hillary, I can speak for one vote that will go Republican.
I guess I don't really count as a convert though, since I'm an independent.
