Photo filler post
It's Friday. I'm shortly going to lunch with Mr. Macomber and Mr. Seavey and probably won't have time for much blogging beforehand.
I had vivid dreams of Scotland last night, just walking on my favorite street in Edinburgh, eating crepes at a little stand on Grassmarket Row, the smell of hops in the air. Nothing much happened in my dream, it was all just buildings and views. It ended with me standing on the Royal Mile, looking down on a quiet Princes Street in the dead of night.
My dreams of Scotland rarely involve Edinburgh. Though it's one of my favorite cities, second only to New York, I only lived there for spurts of few weeks. Aberdeen and Forres were my homes during my Scotland years, never Edinburgh really.
Anyway, thanks to Flickr, I found pictures of Edinburgh that are reminscent of my dream. Not the castle or Princes Street, but shots of streets and back alleys, the parts that really make up a city. Here they are, linked back to the flickr page of their photographers:
I need to go back there with my camera, and soon.

Posted by: Petitedov at March 7, 2008 12:16 PMI love the first one especially. I'd like to hear more about Columbia, too, and soon!
Posted by: Shawn Macomber at March 7, 2008 01:12 PMMy son fell in love with Edinburgh when we were there last summer, and the tweed cap he bought there is his prized possession.
I've got a few photos in Flickr from the trip that are along these lines, mostly from Leith, near our hotel.
iso-bar, Bernard St, Leith
Norries Bar, Constitution St., Leith
Port of Leith
Advocates Close on the Royal Mile
The Jolly Judge, just off the Royal Mile

Not sure if you are familiar with the scene in Trainspotting where the U.S. tourist goes into a Leith boozer and gets robbed but most pubs on Constitution Street and Bernard St would have been likely candidates. A lot of change in 10 year. I'm glad that you and your soon enjoyed your trip and stroll around Leith.
There used to be a Russian boozer down that area with a framed photo of Stalin behind the bar. Would never have dreamt of going into it but a young NY politico hip chick took me along. An interesting experience.
