My favorite is the one where it shows a woman touching an inconsolable man, which says, "I apologize for not feeling sympathy for your athletic team's loss."

since when are you not in the market for new friends?

I don't have time to see the ones I already have!

Unless they are Japanese chefs! I love the top two. Those are my personal mottos.

I question whether "inadvertently" was necessary here.

Why is the US government bailing out that bank? Surely, in a capitalist society, the badly run business should be let fail in favour of the better run one. Perry! Some help please!

Didn't this government also pitch money into the airline/aircraft industry just post 9/11. Money which they used to make things better? I don't think so. If Bear Stearns has screwed up this week, why save them so they can do it again in the future? Surely letting them go under would help the economy in the longer term.

but don't people deserve to lose their investments if they invest in a failing investment bank?

That is, after all, reflected in the interest rate.

Either way "the people" are going to pay for the mess... you can either have "the people" be the ones who actually made the bad bets and have them pay in proportion to their investments, or "the people" be every tax payer and have them pay in proportion to their taxable income, from whatever the source. I don't see how the 2nd alternative is fairer at all.

Capitalism would be nice to try.
