Vice

I love me some Bobby Jindal, but I'm with Allahpundit on this: it's too soon for the VP talk:

He’s been governor for two months; before that he was in Congress for three years; before that he racked up eight years (of impressive accomplishments) in state government. In other words, his resume roughly tracks with Obama’s.

Except for the accomplishments part.

If the other party wants to put up an untested candidate like Obama, as their presidential choice no less, that's fine with me (sidenote: c'mon, all of you who said I'm crazy to prefer Obama to Hillary, doesn't the whole Jeremiah Wright story just prove this man is in completely over his head and will drown in the general election?).

But I'd like Republicans to be a bit more circumspect in who we choose to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. I have no doubt that Jindal would rise to the occasion of the office if chosen, but I'd prefer if he spent a term or two as governor before having the opportunity to prove he could do it. He's one of the stars of our JV squad. Pretty soon he'll be Varsity, but he's not quite ready yet.

I'm for Gov. Sarah Palin right now. She's older than Jindal (but still young), slightly more experience as governor, and shares McCain's views on ethics/earmarks/etc. while being more conservative than him on issues that McCain needs help with securing the base.

But yes, she hasn't has much national exposure, is form Alaska, and all the other things. I still think it's worth the risk.

But she's pregnant. It's not the right time for her either. A pregnant woman is unlikely to do what she needs to do on the campaign trail.

Mark my words, if the GOP establishment tries to screw huck by not giving him a good speaking slot at the convention or if he's not the VP, it won't matter who the VP is, because McCain won't win.

the hucksters out there won't support mccain if huck is dissed.

I'm not against Jindal down the road...he could be the republican obama with some substance.

4 years from now he can be Huck's VP...and then be president in 12 years.

Tim Pawlenty?

Yeah....forgot about that. I dunno. I just want someone who can make me excited for November. Crist, Pawlenty, Graham, and even Mark Sanford just aren't doing it for me.

....but yes, I would be all about some Jindal/Palin '08.

Jindal and Palin are each impressive rising stars and will get their shot at the national ticket in the future.

But we cannot justify criticizing Obama for being 'inexperienced' this fall if we put Jindal or Palin on the ticket...since they're inexperienced, too.

Jindal is no Obama...though that would be an interesting way for mccain to counter the "firsts" he'll be running against.

I've been wrong with every other prediction I've made, but I wouldn't be surprised if he tapped Condi Rice.

Talk about a spanner in the old identity politics works.

Another route for VP is to give it to an experienced DC hand. Examples are Cheney, GHW Bush, Mondale, Barkley, Garner, and so on. One example of this type of VP available would be Dick Armey. Another would be John Kasich (I think his children are out of college now, so his bills are lower). Still another set of candidates can be found in current or past governors. Would former Michigan Gov. John Engler do it for you? After all, many Michiganders will remember that when Engler was governor, Michigan led the nation out of recession, not into one.

Jindall is from LA-a state McCain should be ok in and a state where politicians have a history of nasty habits. Not saying Jindall has them but you can never be too sure especially in the Pelican State. I think Pawlenty is a safe bet if McCain wants a young governor from a swing state.
