Another one of those "raising awareness" campaigns

I want to free Tibet as much as the next person (in fact, my parents can confirm that I had a "Free Tibet" sticker hanging in my room in their house since about 1992) but I'm not sure what scaling the Golden Gate bridge or messing with the Olympic torch is going to do about it. I believe it was Mark Steyn who said that all the Free Tibet people would have a fit if we made a move to do anything to actually free Tibet.

Yeah Karol. Cause the likes of Gary Bauer and Rep. Smith of NJ are so darn liberal. At least Bauer and Smith are Americans. It's easy to want Americans to fight for other nations and peoples when you are an alien like Steyn.

When someone has a dragon sitting on them you're not going to move the beast with words and gestures.

Of course, I guess if we're ready to go to war over Estonia (thanks to NATO membership), why not Tibet?

Its not hard to understand...

The world will have its eyes and its reporters in China. People are trying to shed light on Tibetan situation. Seems pretty straight forward.

The torch run is cool, but by no means sacred. It was started as a marketing device by the Nazi's in 1938. Still protesters messing with the torch have you talking about China and Tibet on your blog. Score 1 for the protesters.

"It was started as a marketing device by the Nazi's in 1938."

Ouch. Score 16 for the nazi's, apparently.

I think we missed his bigger point here. That being that the very same activist, left leaning types that so want to free Tibet are the same ones who want to pull out of Iraq. Let's also "Free Iraq". As difficult as that has been it is cake compared to China's reaction to trying to "free Tibet."

I think M means 1936-the famed Berlin games with Jesse Owens. FYI, one of my favorite writers, Thomas Wolfe, was there and cheered Owens on so much that Hitler himself turned to see who was making so much noise (Wolfe was huge, like 6-6 and 300 pounds, and had something of an over the top personality when he was in crowds). Wolfe was better on race than a lot of academics seem to think he was.

*raises hand*

I'd like to see Tibet free. I also want to see Iraq free. Hell, I'd like to see Kurdistan free.

I'm not a leftist activist.

It humiliates the Sino-fascist stormtroopers in Beijing.

Any opportunity to rub their noses in the dirt should be capitalized upon.
