Fark headline of the day
Israel tells Jimmy Carter to visit their website. The Fark comment:
Israeli Secret Service refuses to assist U.S. Secret Service in protecting Jimmy Carter. Carter won't be taken hostage by Hamas anyway, since they can't afford to pay the U.S. enough to take him backPosted by Karol at April 14, 2008 07:29 PM | TrackBack

I hope that Hamas/the Islamic Resistance Movement, a cousin organization to Al Qaida, give Carter the Daniel Pearl treatment. Oh, wait, I'm sure that Carter would pay the Jizya or convert.
Posted by: RonL at April 14, 2008 09:56 PMKarol, you and I have agreed on this before: Jimmy Carter has no class. It's as if he never really had the Presidency. Was he really there? How in the world does he not understand this?
Posted by: michael parker at April 14, 2008 10:09 PMWhether we like him or not, the fact remains Jimmy Carter was a president of these United States and Israel is insulting this nation by this action. While I have no respect for Carter, I do have respect for the office he once held and the nation he once led. Wishing death to an ex-president, has RonL hopes, is beyond the bounds of rational discourse. If Israel insists on cutting funds to an American, I suggest we would do the same to them. Next time say Bibi comes to NY, I'm sure we can arrange our men to stay home and hope he does not meet the end that Rabin did.
Posted by: Von Bek at April 14, 2008 11:24 PMIt's hard to believe Carter doesn't understand. At this point he's just trying to make the Israelis look bad.
Posted by: Eric at April 15, 2008 03:08 AMRemember when you broke my camera, just so I would have to thank you for fixing it?
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at April 15, 2008 11:40 AMVon Bek,
I certainly don't feel insulted. At least, not by Israel. I think they're just calling him on his bullshit assertion he's just going there as a private citizen.
Posted by: Eric at April 15, 2008 12:19 PMI hope that Hamas/the Islamic Resistance Movement, a cousin organization to Al Qaida, give Carter the Daniel Pearl treatment.
There's a nice thought
I'm sure we can arrange our men to stay home and hope he does not meet the end that Rabin did.
That's equally f'd up.
Take your meds people.
Can't share the sentiment, Von Bek. Respect is earned, not bestowed, and sure as hell not by being elected. Going further, holding public office does not mean the person doesn't deserve punishment. A two-ton truck could fall from the sky onto Carter, and I'd still think that was too easy a fate for that man of scum.
Israelis should in fact feel insulted if their government did spend anything to help protect Carter. Why should they? That piece of shit is meeting with an avowed enemy of Israel and the United States. Why should either nation's taxpayers be responsible for protecting him?
But Hamas obviously would never do anything to Carter, just like Al Qaeda would never directly attack the UN HQ. Why attack your friends?
Posted by: Perry Eidelbus at April 15, 2008 01:06 PMHonest question, and forgive me if I come across as completely oblivious, but what is the worst that could happen from Carter's visit? Is this another one of those "U.S. public figure giving legitimacy to terrorist organization" sort of things?
Posted by: Shawn at April 15, 2008 02:57 PMI don't actually want Carter killed. I was making fun of the that fear.
Perhaps Von Bek and others missed the part about him paying the Jizya.
And If Bibi were to come to New York to negotiate with Aztlanistas on how to force the US to accept partition, I would want him deported. Sorry that you can't respect sovereignty or conservative thought when it comes to Israel.
Posted by: RonL at April 16, 2008 09:35 PMIt has been said that one may lie for peace, but the peace itself may be a lie.
I realize what I am about to say will be hard for many to understand.
It is very likely that there may be war soon.
The streets are filled with those who believe they want such a war.
Men who have built careers upon war are in place, waiting for their go-ahead.
We must have men who will be willing to deal with the reality of peace, once that peace is no longer a lie.
It was improper for the State of Israel to not extend the proper respect and courtesy of their nation to President Carter.
This may be hard for some to accept, but President Carter was the only president in recent history to actually help negotiate the only lasting peace treaty between Israel and another sovereign land, once a bitter enemy and foe in war.
He have saved innumerable Jewish, Arab, and even American lives in doing so.
For this, you of a later generation may not respect him. The State of Israel nonetheless should respect him for who he is, and what he did for them.
Posted by: hashfanatic at April 17, 2008 01:45 AMMy apologies. You said you hoped Carter would get the Daniel Pearl treatment which to me meant being killed. Humor often does not translate well on a blog.
I love sovereignty (I would love to see the UN dismantled and tossed into the East River) and I hold conservative thoughts on Israel. I am a conservative. I don't like to pay taxes. I don't like the fact that so much of my hard earned dollars have gone over to Israel. While I suppose Israel deserves American funds more than most other nations, that does not mean I like my dollars going overseas.
