Things you know
New York is the epicenter for neurotic people.
Not exactly news there.
And I knew that Florida had a high concentration of extroverts. Whenever my European friends would imitate the highly enthusiastic, American-accented "have a nice day!", it always sounded Floridian.

New Yorkers retire to Florida (my grandfather even participates in a "New York Club" where he lives!). So, if your friends sound Floridian, then they sound like old New Yorkers. ;)

That's only the coast, where everybody preens and no one ever smiles. Travel inland a little and you'll get the grinning, energetic "have a nice day" every time.
