Tomorrow in NYC
Rumor has it Bob Barr may show up to the Lolita Debate on Wednesday in New York. The topic will be "Should libertarians vote for Bob Barr or John McCain?" Arguing the Barr side is my friend Avery Knapp.

Libertarians are going to vote for John McCain?
Posted by: Marco at June 3, 2008 11:46 AMBetter than Bob Barr, no?
Posted by: Karol at June 3, 2008 11:51 AMActually, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's debate, besides cheering on Avery, to hear someone try to make the case for conservatives and libertarians to vote for John McCain. I mean, I know as well as anyone that Bob Barr is not ideologically pure (I voted for Mary Ruwart on all 6 ballots in Denver), but McCain is libertarian and/or conservative on which issues again?
Posted by: Jim Lesczynski at June 3, 2008 02:41 PMI'll have plenty to say about that, Mr. Lesczynski.
And Karol: you & I are friends too -- maybe we haven't met but we'll always have Facebook.
So we are, Ken! I forgot about that...
Posted by: Karol at June 3, 2008 05:10 PMWhat libertarian is going to vote for McCain?
Posted by: Troy at June 4, 2008 09:36 PMSo did the rumor pan out?
Posted by: Shawn at June 5, 2008 10:38 AMBob Barr is a drug warrior who supported the war in Iraq and voted for the Patriot Act. In my opinion, he is NOT a libertarian and NOT principled.
Posted by: at June 5, 2008 01:41 PMBarr indeed attended and even took some questions. Avery's pro-Barr position carried the vote of the (highly sympathetic) audience.
Posted by: Todd Seavey at June 5, 2008 01:44 PMTo the unnamed person:
Bob Barr voted for the Patriot Act but since regrets it. Was he stupid to vote for something he didn't completely read and understand? Sure, but it also shows that even a principled, intelligent person can get caught up in patriotic-sounding rhetoric of the times.
I'm not sure what precisely is his position now about Iraq, but Barr now considers us "occupiers."
Are those Kerryesque flip-flops? No, because he changed his position out of sincerity, not because he held his finger up to the wind.
