It's really frightening that we're the only country which allows free speech.
Posted by: Marco at June 13, 2008 02:42 PMAnd yet, many college campuses have special areas designated as "free speech zones."
Posted by: Shawn at June 13, 2008 03:00 PMBut what is going on in Canada is the "fleshing" out of these laws which have largely remained unchallenged, and hopefully with the Mark Steyn case free speech will be given the latitude it so deserves.
As well these laws originally were advocated by B'nai Brith and the Canadian Jewish Congress; mostly these laws have been used to protect the Canadian Jewish Community and prosecute holocaust deniers.
I Offend Thee! I Offend Thee! I Offend Thee!
There. I feel better now. I just love America.
Posted by: twolaneflash at June 14, 2008 07:09 PMFreedom of speech is a great thing. I worry that it also allows people to say things that are completely untrue and wrong and get away with it. I don't have an answer as far as how to combat this problem, I just wanted to mention it.
