Celebrities are stupid
Of her film on Malawi, which includes scenes about a young widow who must submit to being raped three times a day to "cleanse" her, Madonna said, "It's not my place to judge that tradition. But to have a conversation with a village headsman and say, 'Do you realize this is spreading a deadly disease?' and have him say, 'Yes, but there's nothing I can do' is mind-bogglingly frustrating. But we drop bombs on children during wartime, so you think, 'Who's practicing black magic?' " So ritualized rape is OK if you use a condom, and anyway the real horror story is the United States.Posted by Karol at August 19, 2008 09:08 AM | TrackBackListen to her discussing something she finds really horrible: "It was painful and a big struggle and I didn't understand it. But in the end I rationalized that when a woman has a child and goes through natural childbirth she suffers an enormous amount. So I went through my own kind of birthing pains, dealing with the press on my doorstep."

I'd say that Madonna is a vapid moron but that's just not fair to morons. Or Paris Hilton.
Posted by: Ari at August 19, 2008 03:02 PMI was starting to respect Madonna for adopting a child from an impoverished country, giving the girl a chance at a life she otherwise couldn't dream of having. Well, at least Madonna did the right thing for the wrong reason. If she doesn't believe it's her place to "judge" rape, then her entire ability to reason must be questioned.
Being a rational person, it's my place to judge such a "tradition." It's despicable, and I hope those savages who rape the woman are themselves ass-poked for the eternity they'll spend in hell.
Now, she mentions that the U.S. "drop[s] bombs on children during wartime." Oh, as opposed to dropping bombs during peacetime? And show me where innocent childern were deliberately targetted? The U.S. military goes out of its way to avoid civilian casualties, even at the cost of our troops' lives. There's no comparison whatsoever to these raghead barbarians who do suicide bombings indiscriminately.
Posted by: Perry Eidelbus at August 20, 2008 02:13 PMI agree with all these comments about Madonna. Her supposedly gangster husband (who is actually quite well to do) was heard moaning about the property prices in the UK, forgetting that people like himself owning a few extra places might have a little to do with this. As people in my fanmily are wont to say 'when God made them, He matched them'
