Killer

Dawn Summers woke me with the information that Obama had picked Joe Biden for his VP. Then she told me McCain has already released an ad with Biden praising McCain and saying Obama isn't ready to lead. I say the ad is genius, probably McCain's best yet, Dawn thinks it's meaningless because obviously Biden doesn't think that now. What say you?

Everyone saw the ad coming down the pipe, but I didn't expect such a fast turnaround. Nice work, McCain team.

Will it work? Well, ask the Nixon '60 and Carter '80 campaigns.

I say it means that McCain isn't choosing Romney for VP, unless he wants Obama to turn around and do the same thing to him in a week.

Nothing says CHANGE like a DC-lifer such as Biden. Well done Obama.

Perfect. Precise commercial, what more needs to be said?

Posted by: Jennifer at August 23, 2008 01:15 PM

The first thing I thought when I saw the ad was.."he can't pick Romney now, can he"?....Romney said alot worse about McCain.

we can only hope that's true.

I can't imagine that McCain's picking Romney. I didn't think so that much last week either. Just not seeing what the Mormon pro-choicer brings to the table for the core of the party. One or the other of those things they might overlook, but both together is basically putting one thumb too many in their eyes.

Similarly, given all the crap Romney has said while running in Mass. there's pretty much no way that McCain can choose him then act surprised he loses. Heck, he'd be better off choosing Ron Paul--at least that man's type of crazy won't set the party's core on edge. Heck, you know that come hell or high water his folks are showing up on election day (or hacking the computers--six in one hand, half dozen in the other). (NOTE: Not an endorsement of Ron Paul for Veep, just an acknowledgment that the man's a better choice than Romney.)

It's Bush/Cheney part 2. The potentially moronic neophyte and the angry, will say anything old guy. I really hope Obama gets slapped around for that. Or for just being annoying.

This is a genuine head-scratcher.

In one fell swoop he:
- kills his "change" theme. 36 years in the Senate?
- kills his "I was against the war" argument. How was Hillary's judgement off on the war, yet Biden's, who has been even more supportive than Hillary, VP-worthy?
- brings an unruly, unfriendly gaffe machine on board.
- Fails to provide any "southern flavor" which he desperately needs

What happened to the folks who WERE running the show on the Obama campaign? They're really dropping the ball it seems.

I know the campaign can't openly explain their reasoning, but I'd really like to know some logical thought process behind this.

Reagan picked a guy who referred to his taxation plan "voodoo economics" for veep and that didn't seem to hurt his campaign much.

"What happened to the folks who WERE running the show on the Obama campaign?"

They're too busy catching up with The Enquirer on the Edwards' love child story to pay attention to a silly VP choice.

I'm about 99% serious on that.

"Reagan picked a guy who referred to his taxation plan "voodoo economics" for veep and that didn't seem to hurt his campaign much."

As I recall, Bush Sr. was the second-place vote-getter in that contest, too, and Bill Kristol points out that strong candidates often co-opt strong-and-appropriately-caustic runner-ups.

Biden is a spectacularly bad choice. Which leads me to expect McCain will choose Huckabee, just to ensure this is the worst... presidential... election... EVAH!

Posted by: Mark Poling at August 23, 2008 11:01 PM

Yes, but Bush Sr. had an extensive resume that sort of made up for the fact Reagan was bringing on someone who had verbally assaulted him. Also, different age. In 1980, the networks weren't going to put "voodoo economics" on loop. In 2008 the internet is forever, and Biden's "not ready to lead" comment is going to get a lot of play.

Who else was he gonna pick? The bench is pretty thin on the Democratic side. After Edwards' self-destruction it left basically Hillary or some windbag from the Senate. I guess Barack didn't want to sleep on the couch for the next four years, so Biden it is. An early Christmas present for the Republicans.

But I refuse to get excited until I see who McCain picks. I've convinced myself it isn't Lieberman, but McCain has this habit of sticking his thumb into Conservatives' collective eye when he thinks he can get away with it.

although I'm not sure I want huck to be the VP because it could hurt him for 2012 or 2016, however...

it's now become obvious to me that he is by far the best choice.....here are the reasons...

1) McCain & Huck had a love fest during the primaries...they won't find any material of huck doing what romney & mccain did to each other.

2) Huck is the best speaker and debater in the republican party...you'll need that against biden in the debate

3) Huck comes from poverty...he's not rich like mccain or romney.

4) Huck can help in Iowa, Missouri & the entire south.

5) his populist message would also help in michigan, ohio and pennsylvania

6) mccain & huck can run against the republican brand...they can say they were the 2 most hated candidates by the republican elites.

7) huck has 10+ years of executive experience

8) huck was a popular governor...they can talk about how Time Magazine called him one of the 5 best governors.

Can you smell, something burns.Yes.McCain team did a fabulous job which can be understood by seeing the ad.really McCain rocks. Thanks for sharing with us.

Holy smokes, Biden has been a senator for longer than I've been alive. And Obama was still in elementary school at the time.

Obama's already fawned over Biden's son who is serving in Iraq, but conveniently chooses not to acknowledge Biden's other son, the DC lobbyist.

Politics as usual. A vote for "change" is really just more of the same.

I think Dawn is pretty daft.
