Dawn Summers gets towed.
The 311 system was fully automated, so I just held the line waiting for an operator. My feet were killing me and I was in no mood to press buttons through a freaking decision tree. After a few minutes I was hearing Chinese. What the fuck? More Chinese.Posted by Karol at September 19, 2008 09:21 AM | TrackBackI still didn’t hang up because I could not imagine a scenario where pressing no options would result in CHINESE. Finally, I hung up and redialed. This time I paid attention. Evidently, for English you have to press 1, for Spanish you have to press 2, just stand there, you get Chinese.
Awesome.

Now you and Dawn have BOTH complained about "Press 1 for English" - because English is supposed to be the default, I guess. You are complaining even though they are doing you a favor.
Do you know what the alternative to "Press 1 for English" is? Tearing your hair out as the automated voice lists all of the other languages before getting to your "default."
Posted by: Charles at September 19, 2008 10:25 AMHow about "For English press 1 of just stay on the line"?
Posted by: Karol at September 19, 2008 11:08 AMHow about, "For English lessons, press one. For travel arrangements to a place where people understand you, press two."

Who is most likely to call for the tow, wrecker, meat wagon...?
