Not-so-random thought
If America does elect Barack Obama as our next president, we can all safely say racism is over, right? I mean, if we don't elect him then we are racists but if we do, oh if we do, that means the end of racism!

Posted by: Michael Bates at October 2, 2008 12:52 PMIt fucking better be. If Obama wins I don't want to hear or read one more complaint. Ever again. This has been the most disgraceful, obnoxious election I can recall. The only upside to Obama winning will be my comfort level in telling people to now, shut the hell up.
Posted by: Arri at October 2, 2008 12:59 PMAnxious to hear your crystal ball reading on the current situation. Poll situation is in meltdown. Missouri and Nevada now leaning Obama, Mich/PA/WI/MN pushing well past double-digits out of reach, and McCain's up less than 10 in places like GA and TX. Until the Wall Street package passes, I don't see this trend changing absent a new Russia/Georgia-esque development. Not good, tick tock.

Well, it's not looking good for our, um, hero but I think a month is a long time and anything can still happen. A month ago McCain was winning this thing. The financial situation is bad, though, and gives Obama an edge because he's been in the Senate like 10 minutes and can't possibly bear responsibility for any of this. We'll see.
Posted by: Karol at October 2, 2008 02:41 PMObama will end racism using Rev Wright's solution.
If obama is elected all white people will be herded into box cars and sent to a concentration camp in the middle of Nevada.
Posted by: Jake at October 2, 2008 02:44 PMIf he wins, I hope we can also do away with affirmative action since, having landed in the White House, he'll have proven there's no bar to black achievement.
Posted by: Venomous Kate at October 2, 2008 02:55 PMYes, it's much better to peak near election day, rather than a month before it. I sense a certain stress and exhaustion relative to the current crisis and election based in the discomfort of the polity over the sense that neither of these fellows has a handle on reality. One good speech/chess move, followed by hammering some basic truths in the debates could flip this thing 180.
As for the hard racism of the American Left, the race card may have been played for the last time. By the time we're done with BO, there won't be any more left in the deck.
Posted by: Casca at October 2, 2008 03:09 PMReuters is reporting that McCain is pulling out of Michigan, the most winnable among it and PA, WI and MN: http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSTRE49189B20081002
A reasonable enough decision given the polls, but if this is true then the election for McCain comes down to holding the Bush electoral fort minus IO and NH. That means keeping CO, VA, OH, FL, NV and MO. Lose any one and he's toast, and right now (admittedly depending on which polls you look at, but still) he's losing all of them.
A trend back McCain's way as little as 5% could change the outlook dramatically, but things are starting to look pretty ugly.
