Don't worry, Hymietown is still all Obama

Recently, Steve Silver (who, despite hoping--seriously, Steve, "can't wait"?--that Sarah Palin gets booed at the Flyers game, is a pretty good guy) channeled Sarah Silverman and wrote that the reason many Jews are not into Obama is because we/they are...wait for it...racists. Not Steve (who supports Obama) or me (who doesn't) but Jews, somewhere, definitely, are racists for not backing the big O. I commented:

"Please. Jewish Democrats I know who are voting for McCain cite very specifically Obama's pledge to talk to Iran's leader (turns out he meant the Mullahs, not Ahmadinijead, what a relief) WITHOUT PRECONDITIONS. They're not racist, just smart people with good memories."

But here's more:

Jesse Jackson said that Obama's foreign policy will end "decades of putting Israel’s interests first."

Now, I don't think American foreign policy puts Israeli interests first. I mean, we're nice. We're not that nice.

We're good to Israel because it's helpful to us to be supportive of the only well-functioning free state in the Middle East.

And yes, Jews would like that to continue and feel like it might not under Obama who, as previously noted, has already promised to do things that will compromise not just Israeli security but also America's.

So, is Jesse Jackson also a racist for believing Obama is no friend of Israel?

What's funny about this Jews gasp not voting for Obama controversy is that the great majority of Jews are still voting for Obama. This is just a set-up to call the ones who won't 'racist'. Good luck with that.

Wow, no info on Alarming News about Obama leading in Colorado, North Dakota and Virginia. Instead we get the same Alarming News that Karol doesn't think not voting for Obama is racist. The same exact Alarming News we got yesterday. Way to sock it to 'em, Kar.

Well of course JJ is a racist.

I'd put a finer point on all of this. Literally, a vote for Obama is a vote for taking the road to a second holocaust. To not see this, is an act of willful stupidity. When someone with the capability of doing monstrous evil to you says that he's going to, a prudent man would take him at his word.

As for America and Israel sharing common interests, well of course we do, and it's not just the democracy thing. As long as America remains a Christian nation, we will be connected to Israel, just as the Christian faith is inseperably connected to the Hebrew.

Dude, you're blogging about some idiotic bet you made to learn all about football. Same as you blogged yesterday. And this is on your supposedly interesting blog! Not on the scrabble one or anything!

And yes, Obama is a lock, you know it, I know it, the American people know it. How come you're not blogging about his lead?

The reason many American Jews are supporting Obama is that they are tired of sending money to their relatives living in Israel. They would rather buy flowers to put on their graves.

Because the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is check Alarming News and leave comments. Then, I blog...should I not do that anymore? Okay, whatever you say, Kar.

You wake up at 11:47am? Maybe you shouldn't tell people that.

Meh.

Thanks to Rodger http://curmudgeonlyskeptical.blogspot.com/ I just remembered "Hymie Town". Gawd, he must have said that twenty years ago. Still, it didn't even slow down his extortion racket at The Rainbow Coalition. Yes, the long arm of the law needs to put a few more in the ground.

Karol-

To be fair, in that post I was quoting Jeffrey Goldberg, hardly a raging lefty, and not generating the idea myself.

I do not believe and have never said that anyone, Jewish or not Jewish, who opposes Obama is racist. Most of my Jewish friends and relatives support Obama.

But there is a constituency among older white ethnics, Jews included, who don't trust Obama, and I've heard enough of their arguments to know race has something to do with it.

Steve - Obama's race or a desire to see our own continue? Which race?

Posted by: ari at October 15, 2008 09:16 PM

First off--remember, Philly fans boo anything...even Santa!

My thought is on some of the older Jews who are not going to vote for Obama, in addition to the Israel card, there may be a small pocket for whom "race" is an issue. Also, there are those who remember Rev. Wright from the primaries which doesn't make Obama reflect well in their eyes.
