Sad
Sigh. We're losing to a guy who 45% of voters don't believe is qualified to be president.
This is seven points more than George W. Bush's highest reading in 2000 and the worst since Michael Dukakis's 56% unqualified rating in 1988.
Rove also notes that Obama the liberal sure isn't running that way:
Mr. Obama is trying to make the case that his lack of experience or record should not disqualify him. But in doing so, he seems to recognize that the U.S. is still a center-right country. His TV ads promise tax cuts and his radio ads savage Mr. McCain's health-care plan as a tax increase. It's a startling campaign conversion for the most liberal member of the Senate. We'll know on Election Day if he is able to get away with it.Posted by Karol at October 16, 2008 12:21 PM | TrackBack

Promises of tax cuts. Yeah. We got the biggest tax cut in history in 1993, didn't we?
I didn't believe it in 1992, and I sure as hell don't believe it today. It's not so much of a conversion as it is an outright lie.

McCain is probably already tied, and continues to progress.

Oh, I know, it's not over yet. But it's close.

49-41 but within the margin of error -- it really is the little things at this point...
Posted by: Alceste at October 16, 2008 04:47 PMThe race is close, yes. It's nowhere close to being over in Obama's favor. Your previous post suggests you've been talking to Allah...
Posted by: someone at October 16, 2008 04:47 PMer, yes I do know it is 49-43, not 41.
Posted by: Alceste at October 16, 2008 04:49 PMNah, it's not Allah and it's not even really the polls. Just the sense I get is that things are breaking Obama. One of my most gung-ho McCain friends, a moderate, an independent, planned to vote for Kerry last time but never actually got to the polls, who loved McCain (sidenote, this friend and I actually saw John McCain at a restaurant in Maryland a few years ago and I think the experience solidified his McCain affection: http://www.alarmingnews.com/archives/003811.html) thought Obama crushed him in the debate last night and no longer is confident McCain's plans will help him. It's because McCain has no message. What's his message? Why isn't he explaining to my friend that Obama's plans make no sense and have no grounding in reality and that McCain will cut his 38% tax rate!! Basically, if he's losing one of the few people voting for him because they like him (and not because of party, or because they hate Obama, or because they're obvious racists haw haw), I just think that's a really bad sign.
Posted by: Karol at October 16, 2008 05:30 PMAmong likely voters it's within 2%, according to Ace. The doings in Ohio may actually hurt Obama, too. We'll see.
Posted by: Eric at October 16, 2008 06:17 PMWho on earth "hates Obama"? He is one of the positively most inoffensive people I have ever seen on television. Or in person. Do you mean people that just hate Democrats like I hate Republicans? I would be fascinated to hear about specific Obama hatred...not of his supporters, (cause, hey, who doesn't hate hippies) but of the man.
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at October 16, 2008 07:07 PMNot Dawn, I wouldn't say I hate Obama, but I will say that I simply don't trust anything he says anymore, and that if his campaign is a preview of his administration I want no part of it.
If only the Libertarian Party could get it in gear to nominate someone who doesn't belong in a fruitcake....
Posted by: Mark Poling at October 16, 2008 08:59 PM"Among likely voters it's within 2%"
And that's assuming the highest turnout in 40 years (yes, their *conservative* likely voter model does that). The higher spreads assume the largest turnout since women got the vote. Not. Going. To. Happen.
And this was before the debate. And the epic fail harassment of Joe the Plumber.
New York is a Blue State Bubble. Don't believe the hype.
Posted by: someone at October 16, 2008 11:30 PMHate is a strong word. I certainly disagree with a majority of his policies, when he actually takes a stand on one. He has done a 180 on his political beliefs to get elected (but again the few times he actually takes a stand) and in reality is an uber liberal which I do hate. He is more fluff than substance.
He is also a skillfull speaker, smart, very charismatic and everything I hate about him regarding never taking positions and providing few details, will probably get the man elected.
So I conclude I do not hate Obama but I hate politicians.

Obama completely offends me.
He offends me, and more, with his plans to steal my money and give it to others. This is chief.
He offends me with pre-emptive accusations of "racism" when it does not exist.
He offends me with his hypocrisy. He talks about preventitive health care when he himself is a smoker. In case you didn't think it out, that means his publicly funded health care will cost taxpayers more than if he were a non-smoker (if his government-paid insurance premiums aren't higher already).
He offends me with his inhumanity, specifically a vote for a law that mandated letting a baby die although it survived an abortion. Note that it wasn't a law to prevent abortion, but a law that said if an aborted baby survived, a doctor could not attempt to keep it alive. And then he has the gall to say he supports a law against late-term partial birth abortion?!
He offends me by invoking "democracy" while fully cognizant (don't tell me he is NOT) of his ACORN et all friends' tactics of voter fraud.
He offends me by already using the Secret Service to intimidate people who don't support him (whose word were twisted by Obama-lover pollsters).
Posted by: Perry Eidelbus at October 17, 2008 12:58 PMThe state-by-state polling is really really ugly for McCain right now. For a while now McCain has been statistically tied with Obama, or worse a few points Obama, in all of FL, OH, CO and VA. The list has expanded in recent weeks to include NV, NC, MO and (amazingly) GA. Today I see polls suggesting that Obama is now ahead in ND and McCain is only ahead 2 in WV. Because McCain is extremely extremely unlikely to win any state Bush lost in 2004, and because he is losing former swing states IO and NH, his only win scenario is to hold the rest of Bush's 2004 electoral fort. Thus, if McCain loses any of the following 10 states, he loses the election, and today's it's plausible he could lose any or all of them: FL, OH, CO, VA, NV, NC, MO, GA, ND, WV.
All that said, the polls were way off in the primaries, and nobody knows what to peg turnout at, so there's a lot of guess work in those numbers, and certainly a 5% overall shift in McCain's favor paints a very different picture. Still, if the polls are correct, we're getting pretty close to game over.
Posted by: Charlie Prince at October 17, 2008 01:01 PMI visit your blog periodically (absolutely love it, and congrats on the pending nuptials), and thought you guys might like to see a time-line (with very extensive bibliography) about the real life of Mr. Obama. Check it out, I think you'll find it enlightening, and I believe all conservatives should read this, and pass it on.

Aude Aliquid Dignum
State polls are, and have always been, a lagging indicator. Obama was winning last week, until the credit crisis blew over. He's not any more.
Joe the Plumber FTW!

Posted by: bryan at October 17, 2008 07:47 PMHe says kind words about Obama too, and you know that he knows that the fucker should be taken out and shot.
Posted by: at October 17, 2008 10:46 PMOh dear, I've gone and attracted a 'fringe' person.
It saddens me when people would rather talk like this than just disagree. This level of polarisation is not very healthy.
"He offends me with pre-emptive accusations of "racism" when it does not exist."
Anyone who believes that there is no racism (especially in this election) is living under a rock. And living under a rock is no way to educate yourself - you are sad.

Oh Danny boy, what rock do YOU live under, where you fail to see Obama and his supporters accusing people of "racism" when they have perfectly philosophical/political reasons for opposing him?
I most certainly recognize that there's racism in this election. I don't deny that there are whites who distrust a black man. I just point out that there are a helluva lot more blacks who are voting for him because he's black and nothing else.
Didn't you see the positive (i.e. pro-Obama) article the other day talking about a huge increase in black voter turnout? It actually said "racial solidarity." If it had been a white candidate running against a black, the article would have been negative in talking about "racism."
Go crawl back under your rock.
