Lol, I can see why he'd want someone who was all flash no bang. Birds of a feather, and all that.

IS it a Black thing ? Or mad at Republicans thing ?

Because if not this is uber huge for Obama. Considerablyt the most non-partisan Republican who has serious military cred. Significantly more than McCain.

I was shocked he became such a vocal supporter, not so much suprised he backs Obama though. I question Powell's reasoning and it makes me think there may be other non-political factors at work.

I'm impressed that the shocks on the GOP bus have held up given the number of former colleagues you've had to throw under it.

If you can say that the GOP bus is holding up at all, that is.

Wow, yeah, we lost Colin Powell and Chuck Hagel. What ever shall we do?

Posted by: Karol at October 20, 2008 01:31 PM

Yeah, I could really see him as Secretary of State.

Powell thinks it is important to have a black President. I think it is more important to have a female vice-president.

I think it is sexist of Powell to oppose Palin.

Being binned by the Bush administration cannot possibly be seen as a bar to future success.

Wow... what a freaking loser.

Great. You guys can have Scott McClellan too.

Geez people, it's not like Ol' Dubya and Dick exactly treated the man well. Seriously, when the Saudi royal family knows the U.S. is about to attack before a Sec State does--well, don't be surprised when said Sec State isn't exactly a team player for the GOP.

That being said, I gotta wonder A. why Colin Powell is making a gambit when it could obviously be played as a racial solidarity thing and B. why he would join a Dem administration when he could just go off and enjoy his retirement. Maybe I'm just wired different, but I'd sooner just go hang out with the wife and try to make up for all those years I missed out on carrying a spear for the Republic.

Let me float another idea: Powell for some reason really thought he'd get the VP nod from McCain. And, well, payback is what it is....

Got zero reason to believe this is true. Except as a knife twist, it would be a beaut.

But Saudi Prince Bandar is one of Powell's best friends. They play tennis together, and Bandar bought Powell a new Jaguar.

Saudis may have financed Obama's education. Right or Left, most of our government officials are playing for the same team

Mary, key word is 'may'. Used in the link as well, as long as 'perhaps'. This IMO is thinner soup than Ayers, and that one isn't flying at all.
Seriously, can Obama be any more tyable to the Saudis than W?

No, and that's the point. The Democrats are just as closely tied to the Saudis as the Republicans are. That's why both sides play for the Saudi team.

Both sides use Saudi/terrorist ties as ammunition in their poo-flinging contests, but no one bothers to clean up the mess after the election is over. Ayers will still be influencing early childhood education programs, the Saudis will still be supporting terrorism worldwide, and our state department will still be letting the KSA steer our foreign policy.

Ah, fair point then.
