McCain/Palin '08!
I voted. No line at all but it was midday. As I was walking into the polling place I heard someone ask a guy to do the exit poll and the guy said "uh, sure, but I think I'm going to be in your minority" so there's at least one other McCain voter on the Upper East Side (or maybe he was voting McKinney, who knows). I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've voted Republican straight down the line though there is an outside chance I might have in 2004 too. While I've never once voted Democrat, I used to be quite the third party voter.
My frame of mind right now is that Obama is very likely to win but I won't fall down from shock if McCain somehow pulls it out. Anything can happen, that's why we have election day and don't just go by the polls.
Like Dawn Summers, I think IC made the best analogy I've heard: McCain's chances today are similar to the Giants going into the last Superbowl. No one thought they had even the slimmest glimmer of hope, and yet they won. Of course, two miracles in one year is a little unlikely but, ya never know!
So get out and vote (for McCain. If you're voting for Obama, check out what's on TV first and maybe make a sandwich). Especially if you live in Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Colorado or any other state which Obama might win. And if you do live in those states, I'm sure you know apathetic people who can be dragged to the polls to vote McCain. No, he's not the most exciting candidate of all time, but he is the better man in this race. Bring a friend or two to vote with you, it might make a difference.

I went at 11:30, thinking to avoid a lunch rush, and found the line was still 40 minutes long. I've thought that if McCain could pull out Pennsylvania he has a shot, but if the urban black turnout there is anything like it is here in Crown Heights, Philly and Pittsburgh are going to swamp the rest of the state.
For once, those predictions about historic turnouts (there were a lot of twenty-somethings on line too) might be right.
Posted by: Mark Poling at November 4, 2008 01:56 PMDoes NYC still use those giant hand-crank machines? I used an electronic voting system for the first time here in VA. It was like I had traveled to THE FUTURE! (Except without jetpacks.)
Posted by: Nikhil at November 4, 2008 02:10 PMOk, see, I had declared truce on this election day, but I see how it is. Obama/Biden '08.
Posted by: nds at November 4, 2008 02:13 PMReports from other polling places indicate that the youth vote is not showing up.(Just as you predicted) This could spell trouble for Obama.
Posted by: Jake at November 4, 2008 02:27 PMOne nice thing about living in the country is that voting on election day is a breeze. Only if we had voted early would we have had to stand in a line, since there's one central location to vote early but many localized polling places on election day. Now if they would give me a receipt for my vote and change the law here to list the parties that all the candidates belong to, rather than only listing everyone who isn't D/R as "Independent," I'd have next to nothing to complain about when it comes to voting.
Posted by: Jason at November 4, 2008 02:32 PMI'm wondering if that Alaska guy will get a presidential pardon from W.
Posted by: bryan at November 4, 2008 08:29 PMOh dear! it's not going so well. Someone just quoted a line "The reps have gone from the party of Lincoln to the party of Blinkin'" That's never gonna be good. Off to bed now!
Posted by: bryan at November 4, 2008 08:58 PMWhile the IC is undoubtedly the master of the analogy, McCain might have been better compared to the Cowboys on the eve of any of their playoff games for the last dozen years...
Lets wish Obama the best. For while tonight everyone will be drunk on victory tomorrow brings a hangover of a crippled economy and many threats to our security.
