Do Something
One of the bright spots of this election was that moron Al Franken lost the U.S. Senate race in Minnesota to Norm Coleman. Because the election was so close, though, Minnesota is having an automatic statewide recount.
I don't know about all of you but I was ready to get rid of Liddy Dole, Ted Stevens and maybe a few others to keep Franken out of the Senate. It's partly because well, Franken is a dodo, but mostly because I like Norm Coleman a lot.
As with any recount, you know the Democrats will try to steal the whole thing and the "intent" of the voter will overshadow the actual vote. The Coleman campaign is currently seeking volunteers to oversee the recount. "Deployed representatives can expect proper reimbursement and handling of travel expenses."
I was asked to do a bunch of things this election cycle and frankly, I did none of them because of my distaste for John McCain. This is the one political thing I would actually do this year if it weren't for my job and the IC's insistence that I at least pick a dress and a destination for our wedding before leaving the state.
I encourage anyone with some time on their hands to go to Minnesota. If you think this election can't be stolen, well, first of all you haven't been paying attention but second of all, I refer you to the Washington state gubernatorial race of 2004. It was stolen but good. They're also accepting donations to fund the recount so if you've got money but no time, consider going that route.

hmmm...I read a different opinion of Norm Coleman - from a conservative Minnesotan.
Posted by: Tatyana at November 6, 2008 05:16 PMI would definitely like to go, please send me the info.
Posted by: nds at November 6, 2008 05:37 PMI know exactly what you mean- after bush stole the election in 2000 -- we need to make sure none get stolen ever again (by the right or the left). Too much is at stake.
Bravo for advocating protecting the vote of the people.
I had thought that as a rabid advocate for Bush, you were amenable to it.
Posted by: anon at November 6, 2008 06:04 PMAfter I watched the Democrats try to steal the election in 2000, I became really vigilant about this sort of thing.
I don't get it, anon. Do I know you? I can't imagine knowing someone too unoriginal to pick a commenting handle for themselves...
Posted by: Karol at November 6, 2008 07:16 PMTatyana, I've heard him speak a couple of times in NY and have been really impressed. He is a great friend to Israel and that's more important to me than ever.
Posted by: Karol at November 6, 2008 07:17 PMI find Tat's opinion of Coleman interesting. Especially after Franken tried to portray him as something he is not. Coleman served the people of Minnesota well. There is nothing wrong with him being re-elected instead of voting in a carpet bagger.
Posted by: StB at November 6, 2008 09:46 PMAnd it is interesting how conservatives have no problem with a crook like Ted Stevens losing an election but liberals don't mind a dirtball like John Murtha winning. It speaks volumes.
Posted by: StB at November 6, 2008 09:51 PMStB, let me humbly direct your attention to the fact that it is an OPINION I READ.
I have no opinion of my own on this subject.
Posted by: Tatyana at November 6, 2008 10:18 PMTed Stevens lost the wrong election.
I am stunned by ice-cream-headache Republicans in Alaska who were stupid enough or so corrupted as to let Stevens win the nomination.
What did they think would happen or did they just not think that far ahead, robotically voting for him?
What did we do to be saddled with voters like this and the ones who voted for McCain in the primaries?
Forget the Jecobin-Wilsonian idea of exporting Democracy, I'm worried about its inherent excesses at home.
They voted for him so that the Obama-led Borg wouldn't have a supermajority in the Senate. Once Stevens is sentenced they can replace him with a Republican who isn't completely senile, over 200 yrs.-old, and wearing an electronic ankle bracelet. I would have preferred they voted him out during the actual Republican primary, but you have to settle sometimes.
Posted by: Gerard at November 7, 2008 04:35 AMOne thing. Look, FL and WA had recounts and the party whose governor was sitting in the state house. If Pawlenty drops the ball on this one...
Posted by: Von Bek at November 7, 2008 08:42 AMYou sure are confident that Coleman won, Karol. He hasn't even won the ORIGINAL count yet, much less the recount. Minnesota is also an electronic ballot state - I don't think the recount is going to be a manual ballot fiasco like the Florida recount.
Posted by: Charles at November 7, 2008 09:58 AMIt's not an electronic ballot state. They use electronically scanned paper ballots, where you fill in the bubble (just like the SAT). Ed Morrissey recently explained how the process works.
