Campaign Promises on Ending the War in Iraq Now Muted by Reality

And the fools that voted for Obama actually believed him? I can feel the nausea coming on when he and the Dems declare they won the war in Iraq.

Last month in Iraq we had five combat deaths and we lost eleven in car accidents. There's no need to end the war in Iraq - it's been over for awhile now.

I'm not sure how many of our guys are actually coming home, though. Most of the units in Iraq will probably be going to Afghanistan over the next 18 months or so.

Afghanistan is going be a huge, sucking black hole for lives and money in the coming years. If you had put me in charge of Iraq five years ago I would have been pretty confident in being able to wrap things up by now. But I wouldn't touch Afghanistan with the proverbial ten foot pole. Not then and not now. Whether he realizes it or not, Obama is going to be spending much of his foreign-policy attention there.

First of all, every candidate says things during the campaign that if elected they cannot produce. McCain would have been in the same position. Campaign rhetoric from either side has to be taken with a grain of salt. It has always been that way, it will always be that way.

That said, Obama on many issues is showing great flexibility on his part, a trait he seems to have that sadly our former president either lacked or only possessed in small quantities. Some times things change, some times you discover conditions you did not know about before hand. I would much rather have a president willing to learn, grow, and make the needed changes rather than like the past admin that took years to correct the errors in its Iraq policies.

On many fronts Obama is showing great promise. His selections of people for his administration show a desire to govern from the center where he can reach the majority of the American people. I would suggest people give him time, at least UNTIL he IS IN OFFICE before condemning him.

We need to pull together. It is sink or swim time, boys and girls.

Roger, the great thing about Obama is he's walked back virtually all of his campaign promises. Sure, they all say things to get elected, but usually they were serious about something.

Oh, and I hear not everyone who feels due a t-shirt has actually received one.

Yeah. Four more years of Bush. Except this time, MSM and the Democrats will not be sabotaging his every move.

I don't know, I can see a serious case of buyer's remorse for those who voted for Obama. Personally I'm glad to see that maybe he's realized that a centrist path might be a good plan...at least until 2010.

That being said, I think the other problem is going to be our enemies get a vote. Let's get Iraq through another election before we start proclaiming victory there. As for Afghanistan, my concern is that our efforts there will become moot by virtue of Pakistan imploding or getting a (well-deserved) Hindu monkey stomp from India.

Roger, you ignorant doofus, first you make the They-All-Do-It rationalization, which is absolute horseshit. Then you wander off into more ratinalized horseshit about how wonderfully growthful hopey-change is. The end of this all will be Carteresque since at bottom, there is no bottom to the man. He has no principles to tie him to ANY course. Standby to be tossed about by seas of outrageous fortune.

Casca-- Obama = Carter is as nonsensical as Bush = Hitler.

First off, you're limiting yourself--there is a potential for Obama to be far worse than Carter. (Iranians with the bomb what? New Madrid Fault response that makes FEMA's response to Katrina look exemplary who?)

Second of all the man's at least having the common decency to not try and step all over 43's last days despite growing calls from the left for him to do so.

Finally, didn't weren't you sick of the left undercutting Dubya at every turn? Can we maybe lead by example here and give Obama a chance to f*ck it up before we start castigating him? I mean, he's still our President-elect, so generally anything that he screws up we're all going to suffer for.

While I didn't vote for the man and disagree with his espoused principles I'm not going to point and go "Nyah, nyah, nyah!" when he goes back on that leftist bullsh*t he was spouting during the election. Leaning over and saying, "I knew you were a punk b*tch..." to your hated bro-in-law when he slows down because the roads are icy may be gratifying in the short term but are you going to be happy you skid and flip into the trees? So why do this in the meta sense by harassing the President-elect? Just enjoy the schadenfraude of watching the far Left's head spin off Linda Blair style.

First, perhaps.

Second, He has no power, and would only appear impotent.

Last, no, I was only sick of Dubyah's inability or unwillingness to fight back and win the war of words. Despite all the hogwash, no, he is not MY president. I don't swear oaths of fealty.

Welcome to one of my big problems with W. Sorry, but the guy who talks everyone into the fight then, when the chips are down, suddenly decides the matter isn't worth it...well, that's someone I don't like very much.

I don't weigh being a bad judge of horse flesh as calumny. We all have strengths and weaknesses. He was better than his old man. His fault was being loyal to those who didn't deserve it, and who didn't serve him well. Still, he tried to do what was right for the right reasons. I respect that.

With a young grunt son shivering in the field in Iraq tonight, I don't see this war as folly. If you want to damn the execution, I'll simply trump you with the reality that all human endeavor is fraught with stupidity. Given what was inherited eight years ago, like the two old dykes, they tried real hard.

It's obvious that the leftist illuminati was thinking of votes before anything else when campaign promises were made.
