Clean government, for the next month or so
The upside of the corrupt Illinois governor, according to Freakonomics:
What kind of quid pro quo can, say, New York Governor David Paterson be expecting as he considers replacements for Hillary Clinton’s seat? He may not have expected much to begin with but, for Paterson as well as a lot of others, a gloomy Christmas season may have just gotten a little gloomier. The upside, of course, is that any politicians hoping to cash in on an appointment or a contract or a piece of legislation will probably be scared off by the Blagojevich bust. Which might — might — mean that politics becomes a bit less corrupt, at least for the next few months.
Hat-tip the wonderful Melissa Clouthier whom I had the pleasure of meeting, over brunch in NYC, last weekend.

Politicians will stop accepting bribes the day Michael Jackson starts acting normal.
Posted by: Gerard at December 11, 2008 05:33 PMThere will be clean government for the next two weeks as no politicians will be working.
Posted by: Jake at December 11, 2008 06:02 PMThis Melissa chick is positively Pollyanaish. Blog was such a piker. A mil for a senate seat? Hell, I could come up with that just panhandling on the intertubes. What a pack of churlish turds those Obamaites are.
Methinks Patterson has briefcases filled with cash magically appearing on his doorstep as we pound these keys.

Yeah, but who's going to count it for him?
