On Caroline Kennedy
Headline of the Day: Woman who’s never worked: I’ll work twice as hard
Best comment on the post linked above: "I love the befuddled look on her mug when he asks her whether they’d even be talking about her if her last name wasn’t Kennedy. “OMG, I wasn’t expecting that one!” And of course her answer made zero sense so she’ll probably be great for the Senate."

Oh no, my favorite part was when pressed about having to work twice as hard she corrects herself to say "well not as hard as people working to make ends meet or anything." I.e. I will work twice as hard, but not twice as hard as people who actually work. Like twice as hard as i dunno, my cousins. Yeah, definitely working harder than them.
Posted by: nds at December 28, 2008 05:06 PMU conservative elites should lay off Caroline (I'm an authentic conservative, neocons blow)...your legacy kid made it all the way 2 the white house...heck of a job...
Posted by: VeryFree at December 28, 2008 06:26 PMThe Democrats have turned the Senate into the House of Lords.
Posted by: Jake at December 28, 2008 07:07 PMSo, what current or former SNL cast member does Caroline Kennedy look like?
Posted by: Gib at December 28, 2008 07:32 PMThat's right Jake. Cause the GOP would never put up the relatives of famous politicians....wait....W.....el Jebo....Poppy, son of Prescott.....ooh look who is in Utah, Bennett son of Sen. Bennett...and who is the governor of California....yep a SHriver in law. Meanwhile in the House we have Connie Mack. Again. Out in Kansas, Nancy Kassenbaum, daughter of Landon, remains popular. Meanwhile Ed Cox, son in law of a President, is no doubt planning his political future in NY (the GOP really should have put him up in 2006) while Malcom "Steve" Forbes (son of Malcom) keeps talking about the flat tax. Mitt son of George ROmney is also on the scene flipping and flopping. Thank goodness California is represented by men who can stand on their own two feet....like Duncan Hunter. No. Not my candidate last year. His kid who now sits in his daddy's old seat. In the upper South, Elizabeth wife of Bob is now packing her bags since she was thrown out of the Senate. Maybe she can find some sympathy with her neighbor to the north. The next president of the US....before he said maccaca. His daddy was a famous coach for the SKins. Meanwhile up in Kentucky, Mitch McConnel may be wondering if he can find jobs for his wife's staff-after all Elaine McConnel, pardon me, Elaine Chao, is no longer in the Cabinet. Guess who is also packing his bags? Up in NH-Sununu son of Gov and Chief of Staff Sununu. Oh if only the Tafts were still standing in Ohio. Fear not. We have a woman who can stand on her own, she is one of us from the frozen north of Alaska...whoops that's not Sarah Palin. That's Lisa daughter of Frank Murkowski. Makes you still wish the Chafees were in power. Meanwhile Jpod son of Norman, JOnah son of Lucianne, Bill son of the Trotskite cheer on the GOP (neocons? More like neptocons!)
As an infamous son of Alabama (no, not Fob James though his son is running for the GOP nod to be governor in 2010) said, ain't a dimes worth of difference between 'em.
Posted by: Von Bek at December 28, 2008 08:10 PMAnd don't forget that Strom Thurmond had his son appointed USAtty in South Carolina when the ink was still wet on his law school diploma.
And back on my side, Andrew Cuomo, Beau Biden, Evan Bayh...
Posted by: Charles at December 28, 2008 10:03 PMI love all the vitriol directed at Bush as a "legacy kid" in this thread. Yep, Daddy sure did buy Dubya that Oval Office seat...oh, wait, that's right, Bill Clinton slitting Al Gore's throat with scandal after scandal had _nothing to do with that_.
The key difference here, for the BDS-impaired, is that Caroline Kennedy has demonstrated little qualification other than winning the genetic lottery for this post. Dubya had at least won the governorship of a major state (yes for those of you with a liberal bent, Texas is a major state even if you'd get your a** kicked 30 seconds after opening your piehole there)--Caroline can't even be bothered to vote consistently.
So, yeah, the fact that someone is seriously being considered for appointment to the Senate due merely to her last name should give all of us pause. After all, even Hillary had to actually win an election.
Posted by: James at December 28, 2008 10:32 PMHow bout them Cowboys!?
Posted by: someone at December 29, 2008 03:02 AMYou're right James, but it's worth remembering that it is a family tradition to not have a plausible response to the most obvious of campaign questions. And yet, a man who couldn't answer the question of why he was running for POTUS is now the lion of the senate, brain tumor and all. I look forward to the comedy bonanza that awaits.
Posted by: Casca at December 29, 2008 03:47 PMVon Bek,
Captain Duncan Duane Hunter worked through college and then was a business analyst, before joining the Marines after September 11th. He is not an empty suit, although his father did a better job promoting his son than his own presidential run.
As a former businessman and officer in the military, the congressman-elect is better prepared than many of the doyens in the New York delegation.
And so, I'm not just saying this because I volunteered for Congressman Duncan Lee Hunter's presidential campaign and just got a nice Christmas card from both of them.
Posted by: RonL at December 30, 2008 07:26 PMOoo, RonL and I are neighbors. We are a bastion of conservatism on the loony left coast.
